Soul Master System
Martial Souls and Soul Rings
Soul Masters rely on Martial Souls to turn Soul Power into combat ability. A Martial Soul and its Soul Rings can multiply a user's strength far beyond what Soul Power alone provides 77.
- Soul Rings are usually obtained from Soul Beasts; their energy and age determine both absorption difficulty and the strength of granted skills 117.
- A normal Soul Master has a limited number of Soul Skills, while high-level rings can grant multiple skills.
- Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts can provide two Soul Skills. 108
- Fierce Beast-level Soul Rings can provide three Soul Skills. 108
- Rings above fifty thousand years possess a black color with a reddish tint; a greater red proportion indicates a higher age. 117
- Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Rings are blood-red, while certain exceptional upgrades can produce rings with golden patterns or unusual colors. 212 227
Absorption Limits
A Soul Master's ability to absorb a powerful Soul Ring depends primarily on two factors:
- Physical constitution — A stronger body can endure more of a Soul Ring's energy. 95 117
- Mental pressure — The absorber must withstand the Soul Beast's remaining spiritual force and resentment. 9 117
Exceeding one's limit can cause severe injury or death. Exceptional physiques, body-tempering methods, medicinal pills, and protection for the soul can raise the effective limit considerably 9 95 117.
Soul Bones
Soul Bones are rare artifacts that can enhance a Soul Master's body and grant additional skills.
- A Soul Bone may improve physical constitution, strengthen Soul Power, and increase the Soul Ring age a user can safely absorb. 95
- Fierce Beast Soul Bones can provide multiple Soul Bone skills. 108 186
- External Soul Bones are especially rare and may manifest as attached body parts, such as Bena's left-palm bone. 117 118

Combat Principles
Individual Combat
Soul Power alone is not considered a Soul Master's true combat strength. Martial Souls and Soul Rings amplify attacks, while unusual Soul Skills can create dangerous tactical advantages 77 186.
- Physical strength can be decisive, especially against opponents unable to withstand direct force. 139 186
- Soul Skills may include unusual effects such as injury reflection, healing, mental attacks, movement techniques, or large-scale attacks. 110 186
- Combat experience and high-grade techniques can overcome substantial differences in conventional Soul Master rank. 47 68
Team Combat
Group combat differs greatly from a duel because Soul Masters can combine support, control, defense, and attack roles 169.
- Support-type Soul Masters are priority targets; Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda users are specifically treated as targets to eliminate first. 56
- A support specialist can dramatically raise a team's combat capacity through buffs or healing. 169 173
- A coordinated squad of seven Soul Saints may collectively challenge a Titled Douluo-level opponent. 169
Society and Occupations
Most Soul Masters above Soul Elder rank follow one of three paths:
- Serve a major faction — Empires and major sects offer the strongest resources and treatment, but restrict personal freedom. 131
- Become mercenaries — A common independent route; higher rank brings higher pay, and Soul Emperor-level work can begin at one or two thousand Gold Soul Coins. 131
- Teach or establish academies — A less lucrative but safer alternative to mercenary work. 131
Soul Master strength strongly affects social standing. High-ranking Soul Masters are valuable to major organizations, while powerful Soul Rings, Soul Bones, and medicinal resources can alter an individual's prospects dramatically 95 131.
Later Developments
The Soul Master system gradually loses its former dominance as Douluo Continent receives energy and cultivation methods from other worlds.
- Increased Heaven and Earth Vital Energy makes advancement easier, allowing Soul Emperors, Soul Saints, and even young Titled Douluo to become far more common. 250
- The world's Soul Master ceiling rises from Level 100 to Level 150. 262
- More than one hundred cultivation systems emerge, with battle qi becoming the most widespread system. 279
- High-level battle techniques can rival or exceed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring effects, causing Soul Rings to become less central to many fighters. 279
