Yu Xiaogang arrives at Shrek Academy shortly after the Star Dou Great Forest expedition, having come because of his disciple, Tang San. Flender identifies him as Tang San's teacher and a longtime friend. Zhao Wuji initially recognizes him only by his renowned title, Master. 26

He investigates the purple-white, corrosive Honkai Soul Beast encountered in the forest. Although he admits that his knowledge of the creature is limited to having seen it once before, he warns Zhao Wuji that fleeing is the only safe response. Zhao Wuji's account of a fiery-red rescuer visibly shocks him, and he concludes that the figure may know Fu Hua. 26

At Shrek, Master takes direct charge of the students' intensive training. He conducts sparring exercises to expose their weaknesses, emphasizes team coordination over individual strength, and assigns strict physical punishments when they become careless in combat. 29 31

He recognizes Fu Hua's extraordinary potential early. Master gives her a Gravity Bracelet that ordinary Soul Masters cannot initially endure, believing she is uniquely capable of using it. 32 Later, he judges her talent to surpass even Tang San's, crediting her battle instinct and ability to anticipate opponents' actions. 51

Despite his severe demeanor, he is deeply protective of his students.
