Background / History

Martial Souls are treated as the foundation of the Douluo Continent’s Soul Master system: they store Soul Power, manifest at a user’s command, and mediate the use of Soul Rings and soul skills. Most Soul Masters do not know where a Martial Soul resides within the body, since its manifestation and skills normally function automatically after awakening. 62

Xiao Yun’s research challenges established doctrine throughout the Martial Soul Theory Debate. Yu Xiaogang argues that Martial Soul quality directly determines Innate Soul Power and that inheritance always favors the stronger parent’s Martial Soul. Xiao Yun instead maintains that quality is only one factor; bloodline, physical condition, Spiritual Power, and heavenly treasures can also affect Innate Soul Power. 91 92

Origin and Awakening

According to Xiao Yun’s theory, a Martial Soul is born with its owner and remains dormant in the Sea of Qi within the heart until awakening reflects it outward. Innate Soul Power measures the Martial Soul’s passive efficiency at absorbing and retaining external Soul Power rather than being determined by Martial Soul quality alone. 62
