Background / History

Ye Mo was originally the Artifact Spirit of the Heavenly Origin Mirror, a treasure formerly belonging to a Demon Sovereign. He had followed that sovereign for countless years, received his life from him, and inherited broad knowledge of the Demon Realm and its martial arts. While residing at the Yi Yuan Sect, he was known only as “Old Mo,” and Ye Xiwen treated him respectfully without knowing his identity 4 2310.

As an artifact spirit, Ye Mo had no fixed form. His prior master had been a great demon, so he initially appeared as a little demon; after Ye Xiwen became his master, he adopted the form of a green-robed young scholar. His demonic aura remained impossible to conceal 173. He became Ye Xiwen's guide, teaching him orthodox Demon Race methods, protecting him during breakthroughs, and repeatedly trying—unsuccessfully—to persuade him to become a demon and inherit the Demon Sovereign's legacy 185 236 1389.

Ye Mo's recovery was closely tied to the Heavenly Origin Mirror's refinement of blood, essence, inner cores, and spiritual resources. He regained strength through the True Dao Realm, restored the Mirror to its peak at that level, and eventually advanced it into a Great Saint Artifact 173 290 673. Ye Xiwen spent heavily to acquire Nine Leaf Dragon Essence Grass for Ye Mo's recovery, treating his companion's restoration as more important than his own progress 571 572.

After awakening from a later slumber, Ye Mo sought a true physical body in order to cultivate freely and avenge You Lian's death at the hands of the Abyssal Demon Lord 1981. He entered the Lord of Darkness's divine shell, fought its newly born sentience from within, and ultimately seized full control of the Godbody 2046 2281. Although forced to begin cultivating again from Houtian, his divine body and past experience allowed him to recover at an extraordinary pace 2282 2303.

In the Mystic Realm, Ye Mo emerged as Ye Xiwen's most formidable protector. He absorbed Myth Realm experts, defeated the God Alliance Leader's avatar with the Six Paths of Reincarnation Fist, and deterred both the God Alliance and Wild Sky Hall from acting against Ye Xiwen 2303 2305 2306 2307. He later returned as the Darkness King, reached the Seal King Realm, and became a leading power of the Divine Court 2936 3196.

Ye Mo became an Emperor Lord after surviving an exceptionally brutal Heavenly Tribulation with Ye Xiwen's support 3238. As Mo Emperor, he ruled the Divine Court during Ye Xiwen's absences, continued to develop a martial path distinct from orthodox Demon Race traditions, and fought for the Divine Court against the Heavenly Race 3196 3902. Tens of millions of years later, he pioneered the Demonic Path Nirvana Great Art, rebirthed nine times during tribulation, and became a Half-Step Sovereign 4137.

Ye Mo's appearance changes with his state and vessel. As an artifact spirit, he can alter his form according to his master's preference; after acquiring the Lord of Darkness's Godbody, he gained a stable physical form 173 2281.

Ye Mo is ancient, proud, and intensely protective of those he recognizes as his own. He initially viewed Ye Xiwen as a possible Demon Sovereign successor and pushed him toward the Demon Realm, but gradually accepted that Ye Xiwen would never abandon the Human Race 1389 1437.

He is pragmatic and calculating, readily using obscure methods to protect Ye Xiwen from manipulation. He erased the binding effect of a God's contract while allowing Ye Xiwen to retain its benefits, describing the plan as using the other's fortune to strengthen themselves 1500.

In battle, Ye Mo is ferocious and contemptuous of weak opponents. His hatred for the Abyssal Demon Lord is personal, driven by You Lian's death and his determination to regain a body capable of cultivation 1981 2305.
