"The enemy was way too scary," Naruto grumbled as he pulled away.
"Mm-hmm." Sakura nodded in agreement.
In an ambush battle like this, long-range Genjutsu combined with kunai throwing was the wiser tactic. Even though she had now mastered the Chakra Scalpel Technique, medical ninja would not engage in close combat unless absolutely necessary.
Not everyone was Tsunade. That monstrous strength and near-immortal healing ninjutsu could only be described as legendary.
Pakkun said nothing, remaining silent the entire time.
Sasuke's face showed little expression. During brief gaps in their dash, he occasionally asked Pakkun how far Gaara was.
"Hey, Pakkun, who's stronger, the Third Hokage or Orochimaru?" Naruto asked idly.
Pakkun was somewhat speechless. Though he did not want to pay attention to the blond brat, they still had to act together, so he answered perfunctorily.
"Orochimaru is the Third's disciple. Of course a student can't beat his teacher."
"Not necessarily," Naruto said. "When people get old, their reactions and stamina decline, right? Orochimaru looks pretty young."
"You brat, it sounds like you're hoping something happens to the Third Hokage." Pakkun sensed something was off, his gaze toward Naruto filled with exasperation.
"How could that be? I'm a law-abiding villager." Naruto gave an awkward laugh.
After a long while, he broke the silence again.
"Pakkun, Orochimaru is still a little stronger, right?"
"We're about to catch up," Pakkun warned seriously.
At that, both Sasuke and Sakura frowned deeply. Naruto did not feel much of anything; he had no interest in carrying out this mission.
It was purely because of work. He did not want to chase Gaara at all. He just wanted to clock out after this and attend the Third Hokage's funeral. He wanted to sit at the kids' table.
Just as he was complaining inwardly, Pakkun suddenly stopped.
