Background / History
The organization operating across the Five Great Regions is ancient enough that its true founder is unknown. Traditions variously attribute its origin to the Three Sovereigns or the Five Emperors; Emperor Xuanyuan is counted among the Three Sovereigns in one account. 294 409
Around two thousand years before Wei Fan's era, Xuanyuan Peak, already a member of the broader Demon Hunter Organization, crossed the Dao Collapse Barrier into the Wasteland. During several decades there, he established a Wasteland counterpart to cultivate human experts, pressured the dynasties to create Demon Suppressing Divisions, and checked the Wasteland Martial Alliance's influence over imperial rule. He later departed the Wasteland for the outside world. 275 294 317
The Wasteland organization is therefore a separate Xuanyuan Peak-founded branch rather than a fully integrated extension of the Five Great Regions' network. Its waist tokens cannot communicate with external branches, receive external messages, accept their missions, or exchange for their techniques. 314
Purpose and Authority
- The organization's central purpose is the resistance and extermination of demons; it is described as a force that prevents humanity from becoming livestock for the Demon Race. 451
- In the Wasteland, the Demon Suppressing Division was created at the organization's demand. Besides fighting demons, local divisions serve Demon Hunters operating within their dynasties. 180
- Demon Hunters are not subjects of a dynasty. Even an emperor cannot command them, and the organization is distinct from the dynasty-controlled Demon Suppressing Division. 166
- The organization supervises imperial dynasties in the Five Great Regions and supports them against demon threats. Dynasties are expected to participate in anti-demon resistance in return. 354 358
- It can investigate any demon-caused human death, pursue those who collude with demons, and act against human practitioners of demonic arts or those who use human corpses for demonic purposes. 354
- Its response to conventional human wrongdoing is limited: ordinary sect feuds, banditry, oppression, and even mass killings are generally outside its jurisdiction unless demonic activity is involved or an actual bounty is issued. 191 338 354
- During major human-demon crises, it can mobilize forces, compel participation, and make examples of factions that refuse to resist demons. Its siege of Lingxu Cave followed the sect's refusal to aid the war effort and suspicions of collusion. 544 547 554
Organization and Membership
Admission and Vetting
| Region / Branch | Documented requirements |
|---|---|
| Wasteland branch | Candidates are investigated thoroughly. Hatred of demons and commitment to protecting humanity take priority; showing mercy to demons or evildoers can disqualify a candidate. Martial talent is also necessary because Demon Hunters routinely fight enemies above their realm. 85 |
| Five Great Regions | Background in a sect is not a barrier, but applicants' origins are investigated. The much larger organization has more complex and less transparent internal structures than its Wasteland counterpart. 314 |
Known Positions
| Position | Function / Notes |
|---|---|
| Demon Hunter | General demon-hunting member. Hunters may operate independently, accept missions, join squads, guard borders, and earn merits for demon kills. 317 |
| Inspector | A higher-status Demon Hunter role. A Golden Body of at least four colors is stated as a minimum threshold for consideration. 180 230 |
| Territory Suppressing General | Internal Demon Hunter who can be directly dispatched when ordinary hunters are insufficient; also used for operations such as purging human traitors. 367 |
| Territory Envoy | A senior role bound by organizational rules. Envoys receive protection while on missions and within organizational territory. 467 489 |
| Hall Master / Deputy Hall Master | Branch leadership responsible for exchanges, operational decisions, intelligence, and the deployment of Territory Suppressing Generals. 196 375 397 |
Internal Structure
- Ordinary Demon Hunters are often effectively peripheral bounty hunters rather than the organization's core personnel. 318 513
- The Five Great Regions network includes branch halls across all five domains, mission halls, merit exchanges, intelligence channels, and message-transmission infrastructure whose operators are largely unknown to ordinary hunters. 314 318
- The organization verifies claimed kills through its own methods; Zhou Shen confirmed Yuan Jie's identity from his corpse by detecting a Saint-level fluctuation. 367
- Confidential mission settlement is handled in secluded rooms to protect members' sensitive information. 366
Operations
Missions and Bounties
- Independent demon kills still earn merit, but accepted missions can provide greater rewards because they target urgent threats or demons with elevated bounties. 317
- Missions may require teams, particularly outside the Wasteland, where fighting alone is considered dangerous and many assignments are group operations. 317
- Five Great Regions branches also accept privately funded assignments, including escorts, protection, and bounties on bandits, flower thieves, and Demonic Path practitioners. 338
- A Demon King's merit value is calculated by realm layer: a first-layer Demon King is worth 1,000 merits, a second-layer Demon King 2,000, and so on before additional bounty rewards. 353
- Demon kills earn merit regardless of where or why the demon was slain, though kills not tied to a mission or bounty receive only ordinary merit. 367
- Bounties can be distributed across multiple branch halls; posting one throughout the Eastern Domain costs 100,000 Spirit Crystals in fees and requires a minimum 500,000-Spirit-Crystal reward. 397
Merits and Cultivation Techniques
- Merits are primarily exchanged for cultivation techniques rather than ordinary resources. 191 314
- The organization maintains extensive stores of Divine Realm, Saint Realm, and Martial Emperor-level methods, but higher inheritances require sufficient merit, cultivation, and organizational responsibility. 397 451
- The Wasteland branch possesses only five documented Martial King martial skills due to lost inheritances after the War of Saint Fall. Their sources are techniques collected in the Wasteland and skills left by Xuanyuan Peak. 275
- Xuanyuan Peak's Five Emperors Fist was left in the Wasteland for Martial Kings under thirty; it was intended to find a successor capable of inheriting his legacy. 275 317
- Martial King members of the Wasteland branch may study its available Martial King martial skills without spending merit points. 275
Equipment and Identification
- Demon Hunter waist token — Stores supplies for prolonged wilderness hunts; Wasteland hunters use it to carry items, medicine, and changes of clothing. 82
- Demon Hunter badge/insignia — Records merit from qualifying demon kills; Wei Fan's silver insignia displayed red marks for slain Core Formation demons. 95
- Codenames and disguises — Hunters commonly conceal their identities and use codenames during operations, reducing the risk of retaliation or demon tracking. 85 111 375
- Aura concealment and cleanup — Hunters are instructed to conceal or alter their aura and erase traces after combat, since demons can collect residual aura to track them. 85

- Human Race — The organization presents itself as humanity's principal anti-demon force and coordinates human experts, dynasties, and frontline resistance. 451 533
- Demon Suppressing Division — A separate, dynasty-controlled institution created at the organization's request in the Wasteland; it supports Demon Hunters within a dynasty's territory. 166 180
- Imperial dynasties — Subject to organizational supervision and expected to contribute to anti-demon resistance; dynasties receive protection from sect aggression in return. 354 358
- Demon Heaven Alliance — Mortal enemy. Its members are regarded as demon-side counterparts to elite Demon Hunters, and their appearance commonly draws Demon Hunter intervention. 86 358
- Wasteland Martial Alliance — Historically opposed the Wasteland branch's influence; Xuanyuan Peak's intervention prevented the alliance from controlling imperial dynasties. 233 275
- Black Nether — Treated as equivalent to a demon organization because its assassins use human lives to cultivate a killing path; the organization seeks to eliminate it. 452
- Lingxu Cave — Investigated and surrounded after being suspected of harming human heroes and colluding with demons during wartime. 544 547

Trivia
- In the Wasteland, a Demon Hunter's survival is treated as paramount; the principle is that only living Demon Hunters can continue protecting humanity. 85
- Demon Hunter missions are voluntary, unlike Demon Suppressing Division assignments, which cannot be refused. 317
- The organization does not universally shield members from personal vendettas. It generally intervenes only when demons, collusion, or mission-related interference is involved. 191 467
- Despite its stated rules, its intervention can become forceful when human survival is at stake; senior forces maintain hidden capabilities such as the Dark Hall. 570
