Standing openly beside Qian Renxue, An Lan spoke calmly. Bibi Dong's expression instantly twisted, her gaze terrifying.
During one of the many arguments between mother and daughter, he had "happened" to overhear that Bibi Dong was Qian Renxue's birth mother. Wisely, he had not asked further or shown any curiosity.
But to Bibi Dong, this meant there was one more person who knew her shameful secret—someone who deserved to die. Yet she could not make a move. Killing Qian Xunji had been Qian Xunji's own fault, but if she killed An Lan here in Spirit City, Qian Renxue would never let it go. In other words, neither would Qian Daoliu.
"Our Little Xue can be called nobly born, a true daughter of heaven. Though you and I both possess Twin Martial Souls, before Little Xue's God-Given Martial Soul, neither of us has any grounds for pride."
If the Qian Xunji and Qian Daoliu father-son pair had not been constrained by the times, and had done everything possible to improve Qian Renxue's physical condition before she absorbed Spirit Rings, Qian Renxue could very likely have achieved a Thousand-Year First Ring.
Even if that had not been possible, there would have been more than a ninety percent chance of a Thousand-Year Second Ring.
Unfortunately, Qian Renxue had likely been given two Spirit Rings not long after awakening her Soul Power. Perhaps Qian Daoliu had considered it, but he had not dared to gamble.
If the five of them had been the ones raising Qian Renxue, first, there would have been all the Whale Rubber she could eat—enough to feed her until she threw up. Then, they would use Angel Spirit Power from the same lineage to nurture her body. An Lan did not believe that a dignified level ninety-nine Peak Demigod could not even control his Soul Power well enough to nourish his granddaughter's body.
As he thought, he suddenly drifted off. Bibi Dong lowered her eyes. This brat...
It seemed An Lan often got distracted like this. Could she make use of that somehow?
Some vague ideas surfaced in Bibi Dong's mind.
The distracted An Lan was tugged back to his senses by Qian Renxue.
"Let's go."
Pulling An Lan along, Qian Renxue entered the garden path. If An Lan had not appeared just now, in a moment of impulse she might have gone along with Bibi Dong's words and done something to earn her approval.
But An Lan's words had promptly interrupted Bibi Dong's instinctive PUA. She, Qian Renxue, inheritor of the Angel Martial Soul and daughter of heaven—why did she need anyone else's approval?
Still, she was somewhat disappointed. Perhaps this woman would never acknowledge their relationship.
With a cold snort, Bibi Dong entered her bedchamber. She dismissed the attendants, removed her clothes, and stepped into the petal-filled bath that had long been prepared.
After soaking for half an hour, she donned a robe and entered the secret chamber that had once left her with nowhere to run and nothing but despair.
Before, this place had been filled with her despair and bitter cries.
Now, it would become the altar upon which she ascended to godhood.
Hatred, resentment, despair—they were merely "food."
Qian Renxue pulled An Lan all the way to the Training Ground that belonged only to the two of them.
Without another word, they began fighting.
After more than an hour, she still lost after exhausting her Soul Power. She lay on the ground with empty eyes, a little sweat at her temples, dusty strands of hair stuck to her face. An Lan caught his breath, walked over, and leaned down.
Their faces ended up directly opposite each other.
"How about we go out and have some fun? Somewhere far away from Spirit City?"
A little light returned to the little angel's vacant eyes.
"Okay."
The moment she answered, she flipped herself up. Their foreheads collided, and they both fell back to the ground.
"Ow! What are you doing?"
An Lan: "..."
Why did he seem to be seeing a basketball player in his mind?
The next day.
Qian Renxue directed the maids as they packed her things into an enormous bundle. She had a Storage Spirit Tool, but refused to use it. She felt that traveling the world like this was what made it interesting.
All the Soul Masters who traveled abroad in the storybooks did the same.
An Lan arrived at the Angel Temple within the Worship Hall and called out loudly before its doors.
"Great Enshriner, this junior requests an audience!"
Without any wind, the temple doors opened slowly, revealing a gap wide enough for one person to enter. An Lan strode inside. The moment he crossed the doorway, warmth spread through his body.
At the center of the grand hall stood an enormous Angel Statue, bathed in sunlight that resembled holy radiance. Its features could not be seen clearly, yet an aura of holiness, compassion, and concern for all living beings naturally emanated from it—gentle and peaceful.
"What is it?"
"Yesterday, Senior Sister..."
He briefly described what had happened yesterday.
"Little Xue is in poor spirits right now. Going out to clear her mind may be a good idea."
"Granted."
Having received the old man's approval, An Lan let out a sigh of relief. He cupped his hands and asked again.
"May I ask which two seniors the Great Enshriner intends to send to accompany us in secret?"
There was no way he would not arrange bodyguards for Qian Renxue when she went out. Normally, there was no need to say such things aloud, but taking Qian Renxue out to relax was only a pretense. His true purpose was to obtain Immortal Herbs.
He needed to know beforehand which Title Douluo elders would accompany them, so he could determine whether they would affect his plans to absorb the Immortal Herbs.
Qian Daoliu did not answer. He remained with his back to An Lan, and after a moment, he asked:
"Where do you plan to go?"
"If time permits..." An Lan pondered for a moment. "Sunset Forest, Heaven Dou City, the Far North, Death Canyon, and the southern sea of the Star Luo Empire."
The Yin-Yang Eyes in Sunset Forest, the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud in Heaven Dou Palace, the Ten Thousand Year Marrow in the Far North, the mystery of Death Canyon, and the New Continent in the southern sea of Star Luo—those were the things An Lan wanted to learn about.
Shortly afterward, Qian Daoliu named two unexpected people: Jiang Mo and Qian Jun. Then he said:
"Return before Little Xue obtains her fifth Spirit Ring..."
"Yes."
After leaving the temple, An Lan looked back at the tightly shut doors and shook his head. Sending two enshriners along was normal enough. This was different from infiltrating the Heaven Dou Empire. There generally would not be much danger in Heaven Dou City, and two level ninety-two Title Douluo would be enough to handle anything. But now they were traveling all over the continent. They might run into trouble at any time, so it was safer to have enshriners take action.
When he found Qian Renxue again, she was standing at the entrance with a huge bundle on her back, looking rather comical.
Seeing An Lan empty-handed, she was deeply dissatisfied.
"Where's your bundle?"
"A bundle? What do I need a bundle for? Don't we have Storage Spirit Tools?"
"I don't care! You have to be like me too!"
Seeing this rare girlish side of the little angel, An Lan surrendered. He could only pack an enormous bundle identical to hers, arrange for a fairly ordinary carriage, and leave Spirit City.
Yet not long after leaving the city, they lost interest in keeping up the act and ultimately stuffed everything into their Storage Spirit Tools.
Dugu Residence.
"I'm packed. Let's go."
After more than a year of cultivation, Dugu Yan's Soul Power had reached level ten, and she was preparing to add a Spirit Ring. At such an important time, Ning Yulin naturally could not be absent. They had packed their things and were about to set out.
"Alright, let's go."
They headed outside.
At the entrance, a group of seven guards from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had already finished preparing and were ready to depart at any time. Normally, Dugu Bo could not possibly be absent when Dugu Yan was adding a Spirit Ring, but Ning Yulin had persuaded him to handle something else.
"Get in the carriage. If everything goes smoothly for Senior Dugu, he should be able to catch up with us."
Chapter 53: Person
"Grandpa? Right, I haven't seen him for days. Where did he go?"
"Senior went to handle something very important."
"You go over there. Leave this to me."
"Yes."
"Okay."
The carriage set off. Feeling a little stuffy, Ning Yulin opened the carriage door and told the driver to move to the carriage beside them while he took over the reins himself.
Looking at the back of Ning Yulin's head, Dugu Yan's thoughts began to wander.
This guy...
It seemed she rarely got to look at him so quietly.
Thinking of everything they had experienced together over the past year or so, she suddenly let out a quiet chuckle. Ning Yulin turned around.
"What?"
"Ahem, nothing."
Outside, Ning Yulin sat in the driver's seat. The steady rumble of the wheels beside his ears, the swaying tree shadows on either side, and the gentle breeze were somewhat hypnotic. He unconsciously began to drift off.
Ning Rongrong had already been born. If nothing unexpected happened, she would certainly have the Innate Level Nine Spirit Power from the original story and be regarded by Ning Fengzhi as the hope of breaking through the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda's tier limit.
Although Ning Yulin had done quite a lot, he had only changed the limitations of his own Martial Soul's abilities. After witnessing the effect after his second Spirit Ring, Ning Fengzhi had made up his mind to arrange for people to try Ning Yulin's method, but no one had succeeded.
Several people had died, and quite a few had been seriously injured.
This had caused Ning Yulin's standing in the Seven Treasures Sect to decline somewhat. He was relying entirely on the possible recruitment of Dugu Bo and the credit for discovering Whale Rubber to hold himself up.
Once Ning Rongrong awakened Innate Level Nine Spirit Power, with the favor of Sword and Bone as well as Ning Fengzhi, everyone else would have to step aside. If he wanted to control the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and mobilize its vast resources, the difficulty would increase dramatically.
He had to obtain Immortal Herbs within six years, or find another way to break through the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda's tier limit.
Honestly, Ning Yulin felt it was a waste to use Immortal Herbs merely to break the seven-tier restriction.
"Other than Immortal Herbs, what other method could break the tier limit?"
"The number of tiers in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda may be restricted by bloodline and the Martial Soul itself. According to Ning Fengzhi, pagodas above seven tiers had appeared in the Seven Treasures Sect's history. The ancestor who founded the sect had a nine-tier pagoda..."
Without nine tiers, it would have been impossible to become a Title Douluo and establish such a massive sect that had endured for so long.
"Bloodline... Could I do something like the Byakugan, extracting the bloodlines of other Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagodas and fusing them to evolve?"
As he secretly pondered and imagined the process, Ning Yulin shook his head. It probably would not work. There were methods of extracting bloodlines, but how could the bloodlines of others be fused together?
After all, each person's bloodline basically contained two Martial Souls, or even more. It was simply that the awakened Martial Soul made up the largest proportion of the bloodline.
Even if all the bloodlines really could be fused, instead of purifying the Glazed Pagoda, it might even cause it to devolve.
To truly do this, he would need a special pair of "eyes" capable of directly seeing the proportional composition of every bloodline, and a special pair of "hands" capable of separating and combining bloodlines at will.
"Only gods could probably do something like that, right?"
Gods could grant someone a Martial Soul completely unrelated to their bloodline, such as Buddha Tang's daughter's Light Goddess Butterfly and Bo Saixi's Sea God Martial Soul. Freely manipulating bloodlines and arranging them into new forms should be effortless for them.
"Shape Supplement, Source Supplement?"
Beast Spirits seemed able to replenish their origin by absorbing Soul Beasts of the same kind. Then what about Tool Spirits... Were there any Glazed Pagoda Soul Beasts on the continent?
What a load of crap!
Still, there were some Soul Beasts named after glazed glass, such as the Glazed Seven Mystic Deer and Glazed Lily, but they were all rarely seen.
"If Innate Soul Power had not been divided among everyone, and it had truly been full Soul Power, would the Glazed Pagoda's number of tiers break through its limit on its own?"
He considered that possibility, but given that Ning Rongrong had Innate Level Nine Spirit Power and still only displayed seven tiers, it was probably unlikely.
"The foundation supporting a Martial Soul is a Soul Master's bloodline and spirit..."
The cultivation of the Essence of Qi Method drew natural qi into the body. It seemed to have some effect on refining bloodlines, but the progress was not obvious. He did not know whether he could achieve the desired result within six years.
After turning the matter over and over in his mind, they arrived at Sunset Forest.
The savage aura of a Soul Beast gathering place rushed toward them. Ning Yulin sighed. Evolution meant going from low to high, shallow to deep, weak to strong. If he could encounter some higher existence that caused the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda Martial Soul to react, it would be wonderful if a resonance-like response could activate some sort of "switch."
Unfortunately, the Glazed Pagoda was a Tool Spirit, not a Beast Spirit. Otherwise, it could directly be driven to evolve by adding Spirit Rings from high-ranking Soul Beasts.
"Wait."
A figure suddenly appeared in his mind.
Snake Lance Douluo's Martial Soul seemed to possess both Beast Soul True Body and Tool Soul True Body forms. Perhaps there was something about his Martial Soul worth learning from.
