001. Do you think I still have a chance?

"Luo Yun, your Spiritual Connection Index is only 86. Since it didn't reach our required 90, I'm sorry, but you still cannot become a Pilot!"

Sakurajima, inside a Jaeger sub-base belonging to the Far East.

The dignified-looking Examiner wore a regretful smile as she handed a report card to the young girl standing before her.

Looking at the score on the report card, the girl pouted, and her eyes began to glisten with tears.

In an assessment with a perfect score of 100, a score of 86 is considered a failure.

Only by achieving a score of 90 or higher can one pilot those big toys built by humanity to fight against the rampaging monsters.

Only then would a girl, as a Pilot, be qualified to say she is protecting humanity and protecting her family... even though the girl's family is already gone.

The Examiner was a beautiful older sister wearing an internal uniform. Even in such proper attire, it could not hide her charm or the gentle temperament that radiated from within.

Looking at the dejected long-haired girl, the Examiner recalled the girl's family history.

While others were still busy studying, the long-haired girl before her had been working so hard to become a Jaeger Pilot for a reason.

Both of her parents had passed away because of the monsters, leaving only an older brother at home.

Examiner Murong fell slightly silent upon hearing this.

It was partly because she was affected by Luo Yun's anger, and partly because of the 'Mountain Steel' mentioned by the latter!

Monster codename Mountain Steel, height 135 meters, speed 5, strength 9, armor 10, highly toxic!

That was the terrifying monster that had once wiped out an island nation single-handedly, leaving hundreds of thousands of people displaced and homeless.

It was also during the battle against this monster that Luo Yun's parents heroically sacrificed themselves.

Until the very end, this monster was never eliminated; instead, it dragged its battered body into the deep sea, disappearing to parts unknown to recover and slumber.

Luo Yun wiped away her tears, then stared straight at Examiner Murong and said:

"Sister Murong, I'll come back next month! Next time, I will definitely pass the assessment!"

Examiner Murong felt it wasn't appropriate to interfere in someone else's family affairs. While Luo Yun was angrily venting about her brother, she had maintained an awkward but polite smile.

She quickly nodded, comforted Luo Yun, and cheered her on:

"I believe in you."

Then she pointed in a direction in the distance:

Luo Yun turned her head and saw a handsome figure walking toward them. Seeing her look over, he even waved his hand.

Luo Yun's face lit up with joy, but then she quickly pouted:

"At least he didn't just eat and sleep, sleep and eat at home today!"

Examiner Murong looked at the sulking Luo Yun and patted her head affectionately:

"Go on, don't keep your brother waiting."

Luo Yun nodded, tucked her report card into her small bag, said goodbye to Examiner Murong, and walked toward Luo Bing in the distance.

Her beloved older brother had a slightly goofy smile on his face at this moment. Seeing Luo Yun walking over with a pout, he didn't say anything, but instead said softly:

"Let's go. Big brother made your favorite Braised Pork Belly!"

Although she had complained a bit while beside Sister Murong, once she was actually in front of her brother, Luo Yun's attitude softened, even if she was still pouting.

Luo Bing took her small hand, waved to Examiner Murong in the distance, and prepared to leave with Luo Yun.
