Old Cao was not the host of Discovery or 100,000 Whys.
He merely wanted to find an answer for himself, or perhaps he had simply been drawn over there.
Even knowing full well that what lay ahead might be like a moth flying into a flame, he was willing to risk his life.
He glanced at the people who had come with him and noticed that one Sakurajima crewman was staring into the distance to the east, his gaze fixed on who knew what as he muttered under his breath.
By the look of it, the man was probably possessed.
Old Cao did not believe in such crooked nonsense. He stepped forward and asked:
"Sakamoto, what are you spacing out over?"
The crewman named Sakamoto turned back, his eyes somewhat vacant.
"Godzilla!"
"I remembered a story my mother once told me... or perhaps it was a folk song... It mentioned a monster named Godzilla!"
Old Cao immediately frowned.
"Godzilla? Tell me the details."
Sakamoto shook his head and gazed eastward blankly.
"I forgot. It was decades ago, something I heard as a child. I only remember my mother saying that it was a monster called Godzilla."
"I had long forgotten that story, but when I saw that monster just now, I suddenly remembered it."
"Captain! Do you believe me? There's a thought in my heart telling me that monster is Godzilla!"
"He didn't kill us because he isn't like the other monsters. He's Godzilla!"
Seeing Sakamoto's increasingly fanatical expression, Old Cao frowned and took a step back.
He knew nothing about any story, nor did he know anything about Godzilla.
Looking at Sakamoto, Old Cao thought of something damnable—the Monster Worship Cult!
There was no doubt about it. Those people were all damned!
And Sakamoto before him gave Old Cao the impression of one of those fanatical believers!
He took two steps back, no longer bothering with Sakamoto, then looked east again. He could still faintly see a layer of ripples advancing deeper into the Pacific Ocean.
Under the sun's refraction, a shadow could vaguely be seen beneath the azure seawater.
"Godzilla?"
Thinking of that name, Old Cao could not help murmuring it aloud.
The name seemed to possess a kind of magic that made it impossible to forget.
"Captain, a communication has come in from General Luo at Mecha Base!"
Without another word, Old Cao hurriedly accepted it.
"General Luo! I knew you'd make this call. I've been waiting for it for a long time!"
Old Luo sounded somewhat surprised on the other end.
"You guessed that accurately?"
"Of course! There aren't many who dare to gather the courage to tail a monster, especially one whose behavior is this unusual!"
"General Luo, the situation is urgent. Just give the order. If it can be done, I'll do it!"
Old Cao made the bold promise, putting on an air of heroism before the General Commander of Mecha Base.
There was a little more admiration in Old Luo's voice.
"You are a soldier worthy of respect!"
Old Cao was also an honorably retired soldier. Though he had not been a pilot, he had been an ordinary serviceman.
"Captain Cao! I am asking you solemnly once again. Although I have already asked the crewmen who remained at the scene, I must still ask you personally!"
"After that Beast King went out to sea, he stood around your dozens of salvage vessels. Did he truly show no intention whatsoever of attacking you?"
"He merely circled the area once and then left?"
Old Cao answered without hesitation.
"Absolutely! If he had any intention of attacking, do you think our defenseless salvage vessels could have survived?"
"And there's something else. He wasn't swimming around there at random. I suspect he found something—the Serpent King's corpse has definitely gone missing!"
"But if we follow this Beast King, we might find the real culprit behind the Serpent King's disappearance!"
The other side of the communication fell silent for a long time.
Inside the distant Mecha Base, Old Luo sat at his desk, silently staring at the top-secret document before him.
The document had already been taken out.
The first line was written in large characters:
<Regarding the internal classifications among monsters / Regarding the hypothesis of neutral monsters, Titan Beasts, and related assumptions>
There was also a lengthy handwritten note in parentheses afterward, added later specifically for Old Luo.
(The Titan Beast hypothesis was first proposed by Dr. Chen, who used Yamata, the monster sleeping within Mount Fuji on Sakurajima, as the basis for her theory.)
(Because there were too few supporting examples, the hypothesis was rejected internally and could not be treated as fact. However, the Beast King appearing on the Sakurajima battlefield may indirectly prove this argument.)
(Old Luo, Chen Yuxin is already on her way to Sakurajima. She is packing her things in Anshan, and it is uncertain how many days it will take her to arrive. Make arrangements for her. —Lan)
Old Luo tapped on the desk. After a period of silence, he spoke again.
"Captain Cao, the courage you showed today may perhaps be recorded in history!"
Old Cao was stunned for a moment, then caught on and burst into laughter.
"Looks like my intuition was right! Today, I'll get to witness history!"
Beneath the sea, a colossal figure swam through one region after another, rapidly advancing in a single direction.
"My spoils are mine alone to decide!"
"You thieving bastard, you're asking to die!"
Godzilla could track scents and traces that others could not find!
He followed the traces left behind by the Serpent King's corpse all the way here.
Fortunately, he had come looking that very night.
If a few more days had passed, there would have been no point in searching.
The ocean would have washed away every last trace!
Sea-Burning Fish-Blasting Monarch
Old Cao's thoughts had been correct.
Godzilla truly could find traces that ordinary people could not.
Humans could use technology to search for traces too, but that would certainly require extensive preparation time and equipment assistance.
Godzilla, however, was different.
At Luo Bing's whim, he had already picked up enough scents and lingering traces from the battlefield.
The Serpent King had been torn apart by Luo Bing himself, split directly into two halves!
No matter how clever and efficient the thief was, he could not stop the Serpent King's blood from spreading through the seawater.
Godzilla followed the trail all the way here. The blood left behind by the Serpent King was like a guiding beacon, its marks incomparably clear before the Beast King.
The thief's stolen goods had exposed him!
Sherlock Godzilla would make him pay the price.
Through the frigid seafloor flashed the massive form of the Beast King.
Luo Bing briefly investigated and confirmed that the target was ahead.
Besides the increasingly intense scent of the Serpent King, he had also detected the scents of other monsters.
At the same time, Luo Bing noticed that a little toy boat had been following behind him.
However, the distance between them was rather great.
Due to the difference in speed, Luo Bing had already left that small boat more than twenty li behind.
"By the time I finish this fight, that little boat probably still won't have reached me at its speed, right? Probably."
Luo Bing calmed his mind and reduced his body's fluctuations to the lowest level. Then, like a top predator stalking before the kill, he lunged forward.
Ten li!
Five li!
Vast distances shrank continuously beneath the feet of an even more massive monster. After a short burst of speed, Luo Bing had found the thief's trail.
And there were two of them!
They were peculiar monsters with squid-like tentacles and four lower limbs. The front halves of their bodies possessed enormous mouthparts, while the tops of their heads bore concave biological structures.
This extremely strange body part was an auxiliary organ for compressing voltage and launching electrical attacks.
It was also the origin of this monster's name.
"Thunder Beast! Height: 72 meters. Speed: 6. Strength: 6. Armor: 5. Special note: the head tissue is the Thunder Beast's biological electricity-generating structure!"
This was Mecha Base's internal summary of Thunder Beasts. The practical example cited was a data model obtained from a Thunder Beast attack several years ago.
But based on Luo Bing's current observation, one of these two Thunder Beasts was around seventy-five meters tall, while the other was around sixty-six meters. Both differed from the standard model.
That was normal. It was like the picture on a package of beef noodles versus the actual product—there was never any beef. Images were for reference only, or outright fraud.
Although Thunder Beasts were the smallest monsters Luo Bing had encountered so far in terms of Body Size.
The fact that there were two of them, combined with their special abilities, proved that this battle would be no easier than the previous two.
But Luo Bing remained completely fearless.
He even wanted to experience what it felt like to receive electrotherapy after gaining a ninety-meter body.
When Luo Bing's enormous body suddenly appeared before them, the two Thunder Beasts were visibly stunned.
Their senses were primarily designed to serve their enormous mouthparts and electricity-generating structures. Their ability to detect other scents was reduced by more than a full tier.
Only when Luo Bing had charged right before them did they stop feeding.
Yes, feeding!
The two halves of the Serpent King's body were clutched by the two Thunder Beasts as they devoured them with gusto!
But these thieves did not know that the owner of the stolen goods was deeply dissatisfied with their theft and had come looking for them!
Luo Bing charged before them without using his breath attack to reduce Action Duration. Instead, he swung his little short arms first.
Although his Body Size had increased once and his little short arms had been greatly strengthened.
Compared to his enormous body, a twenty-meter arm span still seemed somewhat short.
However—that depended on what it was being compared to!
Compared to his own body, they were little short arms.
But compared to these two Thunder Beasts, those little short arms could instantly become his strongest muscular weapon!
With razor-sharp claws and a powerful sweep of his arms, Luo Bing seized the seventy-five-meter Thunder Beast first and pinned its head down for a savage barrage of slaps!
The Thunder Beast, battered senseless by the giant claws, did not lose consciousness. Instead, it stubbornly gathered the electrical current in its body and unleashed an electric strike without even aiming.
There was no need to aim, because the enemy was right in front of it. As long as it launched the attack, it had won!
Crackling electrical currents rang out as countless serpentine arcs spread across the surface of the sea.
