I Am Legend

Everyone's expressions darkened. They wanted to curse back, but they did not know what to say.

Ollie ran to open the doors for the soldiers. The survivors, who had been panicking for two days, forgot everything else and rushed toward them in excitement.

The soldiers in gas masks did not immediately raise their guns to destroy the evidence, as Li Wei had expected. Instead, they took in the survivors and organized them to head outside, preparing to leave the town by vehicle.

David's expression as he looked at the soldiers was extremely complicated. He lowered his head to look at Billy, then turned around and looked at Li Wei, who had always been strange and mysterious. He found him talking with Brent.

Remembering everything Li Wei had told him, David regretted his fearless sacrifices. Bobby had died because of him, as had Mylen and Trau...

All for medicine, two companions had died. Joe and the others, who had suffered burns, had not been saved either. They had died in agony from burns covering their entire bodies.

He no longer had the face to meet Li Wei, much less look Ollie and the others in the eye. David chose to leave with Billy.

After shaking hands with Brent in farewell, Li Wei turned and pushed open the storage room door, finding Isha and Anna hiding inside.

"It's over. There's a military unit waiting for you outside. Mrs. Isha, you can leave now!" Li Wei said, waking the two women and the bear curled up asleep in the corner.

After waking up and hearing such good news, Isha walked out of the storage room in disbelief. When she saw the soldiers outside and the survivors who had originally been in the supermarket, she could not help bursting into tears of joy.

"Thank you... Thank you, Mr. Li Wei!"

Anna also repeatedly thanked Li Wei. The two women and the bear left.

Only after seeing the last two leave did Li Wei look at the Key before him and enter the keyword phrase he had considered over and over: safe Earth un...

After writing the sixth character, he could not continue. The Trash Key even popped up a prompt: keyword limit: three groups; character limit: "6."

"Fuck, why didn't you say that earlier!" He had already planned it out—directly pinpointing a safe uninhabited area. That way, even if something went wrong, it would not cause too much commotion.

When the Key brought him to this world, he had actually been mistaken for some sick pervert who preyed on children!

Being mistaken for that kind of pervert was one thing. What he feared was appearing in some bizarre location. He could not guarantee that the doors this Key opened would be respectable!

For example: inside magma, a nuclear weapons depot, a women's restroom, a women's changing room, a kindergarten...

Dangerous places were manageable, but appearing somewhere that would cause him trouble would be truly awful!

After calming down, Li Wei began writing his keywords again. The basic meaning remained the same, but the wording was simpler.

"Earth, safe, uninhabited!"

Although he knew these three keywords would make it difficult to truly find the Earth from before his transmigration, they could at least let him enter a civilized society and experience life.

Stroll around the city, farm a little, drink some liquor, go fishing, take a few walks whenever he had nothing to do, and try everything he had never experienced before—wasn't that more interesting than turning himself into a paranoid maniac who only blindly strove to become stronger?

Li Wei liked the freedom that power gave him, not power itself. If this "power" were placed in a peaceful society, it would probably be money.

I've never touched money. I'm not interested in money!

After confirming the keywords, Li Wei inserted the Key into the storage room door's lock. With both hands, he pushed open the double doors, and a city at dusk came into view.

"Huh? A city?" Li Wei murmured in surprise. Hadn't he entered "uninhabited" among the keywords? Why had he ended up in a city?

Though it was somewhat beyond his expectations, he still stepped into this world. Only after the Key's portal disappeared did he notice that something was wrong with the city.

The Key had brought him to a small dock. There were no lights in the surrounding buildings or the distant skyscrapers. As he looked around, he noticed a table and chair behind him by the river.

Li Wei walked over curiously and saw a pen and a notebook on the table.

For some reason, the scene felt familiar. Then he opened the notebook and read aloud the first English sentence he saw.

"This is Robert Neville's housing registry. There are currently two tenants: me and Sam."

He looked up at the empty dock. There were no houses nearby, and no one would leave a registry in a place like this.

He continued reading...

"My home has complete... huh? Defensive facilities? There's plenty of space, with five rooms in total. If the useless study counts, maybe six. Food, medicine, and weapons are all still plentiful. I hope I'm not New York's last survivor."

"This is getting interesting!"

"Alright, I'll start keeping track of time from today. September 12, 2012. I was unlucky today and didn't find any prey. Maybe I can go fishing tomorrow."

"No rent is needed to live in the house. Food, drink, and safety are provided for free. What place in the world could compare to my home? So why does no one come to live here?"

"Broadcasting for survivors seems useless. Should I consider flying a helicopter through the city and dropping flyers? Maybe then my house won't have enough room."

"The weather is awful sometimes. The waterproof cover is thoughtful, but the pen needs replacing."

"Does Sam like bananas? Could bananas grow in New York, where summers are hot enough to kill people?"

"I found a new form of entertainment—playing golf on an aircraft carrier..."

The contents of this notebook were like... the ramblings of a lonely person. They also reminded Li Wei of the classic zombie movie, "I Am Legend."

He had watched many zombie movies. He did not know why he liked that kind of movie, but he had watched a lot of them.

He also liked several classic zombie movies very much and had rewatched them over and over, especially "I Am Legend."

Because it had two endings, the movie had left a deep impression on him. Its lead actor, Will Smith, had likewise left a strong impression on him.

"Is this the movie world of 'I Am Legend'?" Li Wei continued flipping through the filled notebook, then deeply inhaled the air around him. Sure enough, Blacklight detected a special virus.

Like a chick stumbling into a wolf den, the virus was instantly torn to pieces. Every component and function was completely analyzed.

After closing his eyes and sensing it for a while, he found the virus's effects rather ordinary. It turned animals into high-powered engines constantly maintained at peak condition, causing elevated body temperature and excessive excitement. The virus also had a certain degree of heat resistance.

This was a virus that made animals excessively excited. Infected animals became explosively energized, as though they were drugged!

"Roar, roar, roar!"

"Hah roar!"

"Roaaar!"

Strange roars suddenly came from behind him. Li Wei turned around and saw hundreds of humanoid monsters with grayish-white skin standing in the shadows cast by the twilight.

These humanoid monsters did not merely resemble the zombies Li Wei had seen onscreen in "I Am Legend"—they were exactly the same!

The dusk light on the dock still shone around Li Wei as he finished examining the zombies that had suddenly appeared behind him.

The zombies in I Am Legend seemed to be called Darkseekers... Whatever!

He shrugged indifferently, turned back around, picked up the pen on the table, flipped the notebook to a blank page, and chuckled as he wrote a somewhat crooked sentence.

"You are not alone!"

Hopefully, he could sleep well tonight...
