Background / History

Tony is recovering from surgery to remove the shrapnel from his chest when Levi enters the Marvel universe. Having destroyed his prior armor collection as a display for Pepper Potts, Tony remotely deploys an unfinished silver Iron Man suit in response to the police disturbance, but ultimately leaves Levi to Spider-Boy while remaining on medical leave. 492

When Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, and Levi arrive at Stark Tower with evidence that Hydra has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony provides the critical technical support: he possesses a backdoor into Project Insight's Helicarrier system. Levi's portals allow the team to reach the navigation modules and implant Tony's program, paralyzing both the Helicarriers and their satellite support. 499 500 Tony then supports exposing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files alongside Hydra's and votes to dismantle the compromised organization. 500 502

He deploys the light-speed-engine weapon White Light to destroy Sanctuary II, commands the expanded Iron Legion during the defense of New York, and fights in Hulkbuster armor. 520 523 524 He helps kill Ebony Maw by adapting to the alien's telekinesis: after Wanda immobilizes Maw and Rhodey removes a civilian shield, Tony uses a borrowed machine gun to finish him. 518

Tony later joins the Avengers' battle against Thanos, but is unable to overcome the completed Infinity Gauntlet once Li Wei claims it. Li Wei sends Tony and Rhodey flying with Stormbreaker before reversing Thanos's snap and restoring the injured Avengers. 535 536

Personality

Tony is initially flamboyant, sarcastic, and inclined to show off, but becomes markedly more serious while presenting the Explorer II and humanity's future at the Stark Expo. 499 507 He retains a tendency toward close-quarters, aggressive armor combat even when ranged tactics would be safer. 518

He is intensely driven by invention.
