Background

Nalan Yanran was betrothed to Xiao Yan, but arrived at the Xiao Family with Ge Ye to dissolve the engagement. The stated reason was that she was being prepared as the Misty Cloud Sect's future leader and could not maintain entanglements with men. Her haughty conduct during the visit provoked Xiao Zhan and Lin Yu; with Xiao Yan's agreement, Lin Yu repudiated her instead and sealed her Dou Qi before placing her under house arrest. 10
