Background / History

Fu Shan cultivated to the Spirit Transformation stage and established Floating Cloud Island in the Boundless Sea Region after reaching the Nascent Soul realm. At its height, the island was well known, though Fu later feared that its inheritance would fade without powerful successors 448.

His attempt to Ascend ended in failure: Lightning Tribulation destroyed his body, while half of his Divine Soul escaped as a remnant soul. He subsequently became Long Aotian’s hidden mentor, residing within his sea of consciousness, identifying treasures and teaching him cultivation methods and Divine Abilities 74 370.

Bai Lan captured the remnant soul after defeating Long Aotian’s side. Although Fu initially weighed the cost of abandoning his former disciple, he accepted Bai Lan’s offer to eventually reshape his body. Bai Lan took three wisps of his Divine Soul and compelled him to record every cultivation method and Divine Ability he had taught Long Aotian, as well as those he had withheld 370 371.

Under Bai Lan, Elder Fu became a guarded but useful ally of the Spirit Taming Sect. He provided protection against stronger cultivators, exposed hidden Divine Restraining Curses, intimidated opponents with Spirit Transformation pressure, instructed sect disciples, and participated in operations against the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion, Demonic Palace, and other hostile forces 401 405 423.

Personality

Elder Fu is proud of his former Spirit Transformation cultivation and frequently speaks dismissively of lower-stage cultivators. His confidence is tempered by the reality of his current condition: he is a remnant soul dependent on Soul Nurturing Pills and bound to Bai Lan through his Divine Soul 372 579.

He is notably cautious, often urging Bai Lan to flee rather than confront Nascent Soul-level threats. Bai Lan repeatedly mocks this instinct, while Elder Fu regards her willingness to challenge danger as reckless 389 398.

Despite his self-interest, he grows protective of Long Yanran and shows genuine concern for her safety while she infiltrates Long Aotian’s side. He also gradually accepts that Bai Lan’s plans may offer a better path than returning to his former life with Long Aotian 446 476.

Abilities & Skills

Spirit Transformation Spiritual Sense

Elder Fu retains spiritual-sense capabilities far beyond his present remnant-soul state.

  • Can assess cultivators’ cultivation and inspect Divine Souls, including identifying Divine Restraining Curses 387 401.
  • Can suppress weaker cultivators through spiritual pressure, leaving figures such as Elder Xu and Chi Yue unable to move 401 512.
  • Can conceal or assist Bai Lan’s movements against high-level pressure, though sustained intervention consumes his strength 373 384.
  • Can track hidden dangers, remnant souls, formations, and spiritual presences that Bai Lan cannot reliably perceive alone 476 551.

Limitations

  • His remnant-soul state requires frequent Soul Nurturing Pills to sustain major actions 487 509.
  • Protecting Bai Lan from a Nascent Soul Late Stage cultivator would leave him weakened enough to require years of slumber without supplementation 373.
  • He cannot freely betray Bai Lan because she possesses three wisps of his Divine Soul 370 476.

Cultivation Knowledge

As Long Aotian’s former mentor, Elder Fu possesses a large collection of cultivation methods and Divine Abilities.

  • Taught Long Aotian Heavenly Tier cultivation methods, Earth Tier Divine Abilities, and body-refining techniques 162 370.
  • Was compelled to engrave his full knowledge onto Jade Slips for Bai Lan 370 371.
  • Recommended the Forgetfulness Art to address Xue’er’s emotional attachment to Long Aotian, while warning Bai Lan about its severe side effects 430.
  • Serves as an instructor for Spirit Taming Sect disciples, though he initially considered teaching Qi Induction children beneath his status 371 423.

Curse and Soul Techniques

Elder Fu is experienced in manipulating Divine Souls and Divine Restraining Curses.

  • Detected and removed, or advised Bai Lan regarding, Divine Restraining Curses placed by Elder Yue and others 387 388.
  • Placed a Divine Restraining Curse on Elder Xu to force her obedience 401.
  • Used his voice and spiritual presence to impersonate the deceased “True Lord Fu Shan,” coercing Yan Gu into a Heart Demon Vow 405.
  • Assisted in obtaining Divine Soul wisps from captives through intimidation and the threat of spiritual-sense suppression 478 557.

Fieldcraft and Treasure Appraisal

  • Guided Bai Lan through harvesting and sealing the Spirit Dao Flower, explaining that it must be handled through Spiritual Sense before its roots can be moved 487.
  • Identified hidden traps, body-snatching schemes, Gu worms, and false corpses 449 476.
  • Recognized the potential of thousand-year-old Evergreen Ancient Wood for reconstructing physical bodies 443.
  • Can evaluate complex formations, though his practical formation-breaking ability is poor compared with dedicated formation masters such as True Monarch Jiuge 399 511 551.

Relationships

  • Bai Lan — Captor, master, and uneasy ally. Bai Lan holds three wisps of his Divine Soul, promises to help reconstruct his body, and employs him as the Spirit Taming Sect’s guardian and advisor 370 395 579.
  • Long Aotian — Former disciple. Elder Fu lived within Long Aotian’s sea of consciousness, advised him, located opportunities for him, and taught him high-grade techniques 74 370.
  • Long Yanran — Protégé and favored disciple candidate. Elder Fu is deeply concerned for her safety, coaches her infiltration of Long Aotian, and is reunited with her after her mission in the Boundless Sea Region 423 446 533.

  • Yun Ningbing — Descendant and current master of Floating Cloud Island. Elder Fu worries over both her safety and the preservation of his island’s inheritance 448.
  • True Monarch Jiuge — Sect ally and fellow expert. She regularly teases Elder Fu over his past connection to Long Aotian and surpasses him in formation-breaking expertise 511 537.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Break with Long Aotian

Elder Fu’s role as Long Aotian’s “Elderly Grandfather” made him the protagonist’s strategist, treasure detector, and source of high-level techniques. His capture by Bai Lan deprived Long Aotian of his greatest hidden advantage 74 370.

Recruitment into the Spirit Taming Sect

Bai Lan recruits Elder Fu by leveraging his desire for a reconstructed body. She secures three wisps of his Divine Soul, forces him to disclose his inherited techniques, and assigns him teaching duties rather than allowing him to remain an idle adviser 370 371.

Heavenly Secrets Pavilion Operations

Elder Fu helps Bai Lan investigate Elder Yue’s curse techniques, detect curses on Bai Lan and Elder Xu, and pressure Elder Xu into serving Bai Lan’s plans. He later impersonates a dead Spirit Transformation expert to trap Yan Gu with a Heart Demon Vow 387 401 405.

Long Yanran’s Mission

After recognizing Long Yanran’s aptitude, Elder Fu pushes to take her as a disciple. He then supplies her with information about Long Aotian and Floating Cloud Island so she can gain Long Aotian’s trust while reporting to Bai Lan 423 446.

Secret Realm and Sect Expansion Campaigns

Elder Fu accompanies Bai Lan through dangerous secret realms, identifies body-snatching traps, assists in collecting the Spirit Dao Flower, suppresses hostile Nascent Soul cultivators, and supports Spirit Taming Sect expansion through intimidation and intelligence work 476 487 557.
