Kaedeji used his Dead Soul Technique to survive battles against Sunagakure and gain influence, while Root forced him into a mission to rescue Yakushi Nonō. The mission returned valuable intelligence to Konoha, and the Third Hokage protected the War Orphans from Danzō’s interference.

• Kaedeji used zombies to defeat Mist Ninja and rescue wounded Konoha comrades, then Aburame Ryoma confronted him about the Dead Soul Technique and transferred him to the Corpse Disposal Unit.
• Kaedeji worked with Morino Ise, secretly experimented on corpses, and killed Tobitake Tonbo to spare him Root’s order to dissect him alive.
• Kaedeji joined Morino Ise’s team on the Sunagakure front and used poisoned zombies to help Konoha fight through waves of poison smoke.
• Chiyo’s puppet corps attacked Konoha, but Kaedeji’s zombie puppet masters drew her interest before Hatake Sakumo arrived and promoted him to Chunin.
• Yakushi Nonō infiltrated Sasori’s workshop, and Sasori recognized her, restrained her, and offered to exchange intelligence about Kaedeji.
• Kaedeji joined Terai’s Root squad to rescue Nonō, used his Corpse Body Replacement Technique to escape Araki’s sand vortex, and helped retrieve her intelligence.
• Kaedeji and Terai escaped with Nonō after Tora sacrificed himself, while Kaedeji’s altered corpse decoys misled Araki’s pursuing forces.
• Nonō warned Kaedeji that Sasori had traded Sunagakure intelligence for information about him, and the Third Hokage praised her work while ordering Danzō to leave the War Orphans alone.

Kaedeji developed Corpse Manipulation, defeated Sunagakure forces, and traded with Sasori before becoming head of Konoha’s Corpse Disposal Unit. After clashing with Danzo and spending five months training, he went to the Land of Rain to find Jiraiya, where White Zetsu forces tried to stop him from approaching Nagato.

• Tsunade and Dan Katō arrived at Konoha’s camp as Kaedeji developed the Void Realm Technique and joined the Medical Corps.
• Kaedeji used his zombies and Corpse Manipulation to weaken Sandstorm Araki, but Dan Katō killed Araki before Kaedeji exhausted himself.
• Kaedeji met Sasori of the Red Sands and traded the Void Realm Technique for part of Chiyo’s One’s Own Life Reincarnation technique.
• After Konoha routed Sunagakure, Tsunade appointed Kaedeji head of the Corpse Disposal Unit and warned him against Root and Aburame Ryoma.
• Kaedeji turned corpses into zombies, including Tsuguto Masato, and fought off Danzo’s attempt to seize his secret technique before accepting a deal for more corpses.
• Kaedeji trained in seclusion for five months, then received Danzo’s A-rank mission to search the Land of Rain for Jiraiya.
• Kaedeji reached the Land of Rain with Komatsu Fuji and two Root shinobi, sent forty masked corpses to scout, and located Jiraiya’s area near Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko.
• White Zetsu forces attacked Kaedeji’s zombies to keep him from Nagato, but Kaedeji arrived with the Root shinobi and ordered them to kill the White Zetsu.

Kaedeji joined Madara’s plan while concealing his own agenda, then led a rescue mission against Rōshi and revived Dan Katō at the cost of his life force. As Konoha celebrated victory and the Hyūga considered his technique’s implications, Kaedeji appeared at Orochimaru’s camp amid a zombie outbreak.

• Kaedeji defeated the White Zetsu force, attracted Madara’s attention, and tentatively joined the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan while taking control of White Zetsu’s main body to create Black Zetsu.
• Kaedeji returned to Konoha, negotiated a tense cooperation with Danzo, demonstrated his corpse techniques, and was promoted to Special Jonin despite Danzo’s objections.
• Kaedeji assembled a squad and led it north, where his zombie network revealed that Rōshi’s Four-Tails attack had devastated Konoha’s forces and left Dan Katō fighting alone.
• Kaedeji recovered Dan Katō’s body and spirit, then attacked Rōshi with his zombies before escaping the Four-Tails’ Tailed Beast Bomb with Tsunade and Dan.
• After Dan Katō died, Kaedeji used One’s Own Life Reincarnation and transplanted organs to revive him, exhausting himself in the process.
• Dan Katō led the survivors back toward the Land of Fire, while Konoha concealed his death and revival and celebrated the Four-Tails’ destruction of Iwagakure’s force.
• Iroha told Hizashi Hyuga about Kaedeji’s revival technique, and Dan Katō urged Tsunade not to ask Kaedeji to revive Nawaki.
• At Orochimaru’s camp, Kaedeji’s corpse fragments caused a virus leak that turned subordinates into zombies, and Kaedeji appeared before Orochimaru as a Special Jonin of the Corpse Disposal Unit.

Kaedeji protected Konoha and Nagato, confronted Madara, and earned recognition through victories over Kumogakure and Iwagakure. He then began dangerous Hashirama Cells experiments and secured Madara’s clone by bringing him Uchiha Obito as a successor.

• Kaedeji helped Konoha defeat Iwagakure’s final offensive, and the Second Great Ninja War ended as his corpse army made him a target across the ninja world.
• Kaedeji intervened when Danzo and Hanzō pursued Nagato, then joined Uzumaki Mito in confronting Madara and helped her seal the Nine-Tails into Kushina before she died.
• Kaedeji studied Madara’s corpse and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, then worked with Orochimaru to obtain Eight-Tails Chakra and helped Madara escape the Eight-Tails’ attack.
• Kaedeji defeated Yotsuki and Toroi’s invading force, while Yotsuki escaped with knowledge of Corpse Release and the Third Hokage promised Kaedeji a promotion.
• Kaedeji recruited Hidan, who killed Rōshi during the fight against the Four-Tails, while Kaedeji transported away the Five-Tails’ Tailed Beast Bomb and helped drive it off.
• Kaedeji and Orochimaru began Hashirama Cells experiments with Senju volunteers, and Kaedeji restrained the cells to keep Senju Touka alive as she gained an incomplete Wood Release.
• Kaedeji brought four-year-old Uchiha Obito to Madara in exchange for Madara’s Hashirama Clone, which Kaedeji took as the final piece of an important part of his plan.
