Background
Originally an ordinary mouse surviving by stealing grain near Old Man Li’s house, Great King West Rat swallowed a red spiritual pearl from a Blood Pool. The bead gave him sentience, speech, and demonic abilities. He later used illusions around the village and stole chickens, but maintained that he had never killed a villager. 11
Villagers mistook his self-given name, “Great King West Rat,” for “Hegemon of Western Chu.” Lu Qingshan exposed him as the supposed ghost haunting the village, struck him twice with Lightning Sword Beams, and interrogated him about the red pearl. 11
In exchange for his life, Great King West Rat led Lu Qingshan to the rock forest where he had found the Blood Pool. The site was concealed by a high-grade Illusion Array; Lu Qingshan concluded that an earlier malfunction had allowed the rat to enter and steal a Blood Spirit Bead. 12
He accompanied Lu Qingshan to Yuanshan City, though he was initially frightened of his new companion. Lu Qingshan later released him after obtaining sufficient information about the Blood Pool, but Great King West Rat chose to remain in the city rather than return to his village. 13 25
While free, he secretly followed Wu Yi and infiltrated the Ku Mansion. There he discovered a second Blood Pool and a War Beast, providing Lu Qingshan with crucial intelligence on the Underworld’s preparations. 25 26 After Lu Qingshan broke the mansion’s Silver Frost Formation, the pair divided the fifty Grade 2 Blood Spirit Beads found within. 27
Great King West Rat assisted Lu Qingshan’s ambush of the severely injured Cry Soul True Person by casting Soul Loss Technique at the decisive moment. Following the battle, he insisted on accompanying Lu Qingshan to Zhenjiang City, both for safety and for the prospect of obtaining more Blood Spirit Beads. 30 32 35
Appearance
Great King West Rat is a large black rat with small paws, short legs, and notably shifty eyes. He is capable of human speech despite not having transformed into humanoid form. 11 25
- Black fur; it was badly scorched after being hit by Lu Qingshan’s Lightning Sword Beams. 11
- Often rides on Lu Qingshan’s shoulder or clings tightly to his clothing when frightened. 11 15
- Uses expressive, human-like gestures, including patting his chest, covering his head, and counting on his fingers and toes. 11 14
Personality
Great King West Rat is timid, survival-minded, and quick to surrender when faced with overwhelming force. Lu Qingshan’s first two sword strikes left him deeply afraid of the sword cultivator, and he frequently obeys out of fear. 11 12
Despite this cowardice, he is observant, curious, and unexpectedly bold when secrecy or potential rewards are involved. He noticed Lu Qingshan’s reaction to Wu Yi, followed her into danger, recognized the Blood Pool’s scent, and infiltrated the Ku Mansion using his emerging abilities. 25 26
He is also opportunistic. His decision to follow Lu Qingshan to Zhenjiang City is motivated partly by trust in Lu Qingshan’s strength and partly by his desire for Blood Spirit Beads. 35
Abilities & Skills
Thin Phantom Rat Bloodline
Great King West Rat possesses a thin remnant of the Illusion Rat bloodline, identified as a sixth-grade demonic beast bloodline despite its incomplete awakening. 15 26
- Grants an affinity for low-grade illusion techniques. 11
- Continues to awaken after consuming Blood Spirit Beads. 26 35
- Its demonic physique grants 1 Stamina = 20 Health, double the standard human conversion noted for his initial status. 11
Illusion Technique
He can create low-grade illusions and conceal himself from ordinary observers. He used this ability while posing as a ghost in Old Man Li’s courtyard. 11
- Produced the “ghost” sightings that frightened the village. 11
- Could not evade Lu Qingshan’s Heavenly Eye Technique. 11
- His illusions are limited by his thin bloodline and first-grade cultivation. 11
Soul Loss Technique
A Level 1 soul-affecting technique that briefly disrupts an opponent’s consciousness. 11
- Used against Cry Soul True Person during Lu Qingshan’s ambush. 30
- Created a stun lasting less than a breath against the injured late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator. 30
- Its short opening was sufficient for Lu Qingshan to seize Cry Soul True Person’s lifebound sword and kill him. 30 31
Stealth
An innate Illusion Rat skill awakened after his first bloodline enhancement. 26
- Removes detectable traces while active unless he attacks. 26
- Suited for infiltration, tracking, theft, and gathering intelligence. 26
- Has a cooldown of three days. 26
Tracking and Infiltration
Great King West Rat has demonstrated practical scouting ability beyond his innate techniques.
- Recognized the distinctive scent of a Blood Pool within the Ku Mansion. 25
- Followed Wu Yi without being noticed and located the mansion’s hidden basement. 25
- Entered the Ku Mansion to investigate despite the risk of discovery. 25 26
