It was a night that felt like a lifetime ago.
What else could it be called when they spent one night modifying an aircraft that could only fly in the atmosphere into a Space Fighter with a certain amount of firepower?
As for Li Feng, who had been planning to go for a morning run, he stood in front of the Space Fighter with his head buzzing. He swore that what he was seeing had to be an illusion. There was no way this was the result of a chief scientist who did not even understand middle-school physics working all night. Something unknown must have happened.
After a long while, Fury, standing behind Li Feng and munching on bread, nudged him and said, "Mr. Little Belly, welcome to this space summer camp. I hope this summer camp organized by aliens gives you a pleasant journey through space."
Lowering his head to rub his little belly, Li Feng felt rather melancholy. Little Belly, Little Belly... if I spent all day sitting in front of a computer without exercising and grew you, that would be one thing. But I work out every day, so why are you still so unwilling to leave me? Honestly, I object to you finding someone else. Really. I swear it on the fighter's headlights.
For this space journey, Fury insisted on bringing Goose aboard. He did not care whether it was some damned Flerken. All he knew was that both Talos and Li Feng were afraid of the cute little cat. Until the two earned his trust, taking a few precautions was necessary.
Halfway through the flight, Talos could not help reminding Fury, who was playing with the Flerken in his lap, "I advise you not to keep that creature on your lap. It's too dangerous."
Fury bluntly answered that he had brought the adorable cat for protection because he did not trust Talos, leaving him somewhat helpless. Is this really a matter of trust or not? That thing can easily swallow every one of us, okay?
Maria, sitting in the co-pilot's seat, asked something she had long been curious about. "Can you turn into anything?"
Talos said, "That depends on what you want me to turn into."
"Can you turn into a filing cabinet?"
Talos was a little dumbfounded. Did a filing cabinet even have genes for him to copy? Who knew whether a filing cabinet's genes had a double-helix structure or something else?
Besides, why would he turn into a filing cabinet? He was the dignified commander of the Skrulls. Was he lacking one or two filing cabinets?
Fury asked, "What about a Venus flytrap? I bet you can't turn into one. If you can, I'll give you fifty dollars right away."
Li Feng, who was sitting obediently in the back row, could not help laughing. Just listen to those questions from Maria and Fury. Maria was purely curious, but Fury... heh, that guy's intentions were anything but simple.
Fury knew that Skrulls could only turn into living things with genes, so he wanted to know whether they could become plants. If they could only become humans, it would be manageable. At worst, he could suspect people one by one and question them, since Skrulls could only copy a person's recent memories. That was the flaw.
But if Skrulls could turn into plants, that would be troublesome. If they hid in a forest, there would be no way to find them. He could not exactly grab a suspicious plant and ask if it was a Skrull, could he? And what would people think of him? Would they haul him off to a mental institution?
Or burn down an entire forest just to capture a Skrull that had turned into a plant? That would be far too costly. Didn't everyone have a responsibility to protect the environment?
And it would be a problem if one of them turned into a potted plant and sat in his office. Who knew if it might learn his bank account password one day? Then all his hard-earned cash would be gone.
Still, Li Feng cast Talos a slightly disdainful glance. If it came to shapeshifting, he could do it too. Balthazar Blake's Magic Book contained transformation spells, but Li Feng had not mastered them well enough yet, leaving far too many flaws. One look was enough to tell that he seemed to be wearing a rubber mask.
As for making a Skrull turn into a filing cabinet, Li Feng felt that if Talos could really do that, he should stop calling himself a Skrull and simply claim to be a descendant of the Great Sage or Erlang Shen. He could rename himself Talos Sun or Talos Yang.
Li Feng's muffled laughter made Fury turn and say, "Oh? Looks like someone here knows the Skrulls' true nature."
At that moment, Carol reminded them that the aircraft was about to accelerate away from Earth and told everyone to fasten their seat belts.
As he buckled himself in, Fury asked Li Feng, "Mr. Little Belly, is the seat belt at your seat long enough? Tell me who you are, and I'll lend you a section of mine."
Pointing at Talos, Fury continued, "Or tell me what kind of race the Skrulls are, and I'll lend you a section too."
That was a rather vicious question.
If Li Feng casually revealed even a few Skrull traits, Fury would know that someone had long been aware of the existence of aliens.
And if he did not answer, that was fine too. With the eyes of an experienced agent, Fury could tell from Li Feng's eyes whether he simply did not want to answer or genuinely did not know.
What Fury had not expected was that Li Feng simply rolled his eyes, covered his face, and said nothing. Li Feng refused to believe Fury could see his expression through his hand.
By then, the Space Fighter had left Earth and entered orbit. Fury gave Li Feng a thoughtful glance before turning to look out into space. Where's the laboratory we were promised? Why is there nothing but darkness? Could the laboratory be as black as my face, so black that you can't see it without lights?
Carol merely froze for a moment before instantly thinking of cloaking technology. In no time at all, she cracked the invisibility device Dr. Lawson had used to protect the laboratory.
As the Kree Cruiser suddenly appeared, the corners of Carol's lips curled slightly upward.
In that fragment of memories of uncertain authenticity that had surfaced before, Dr. Lawson had been a Kree who opposed war. The sudden appearance of this Kree Cruiser indirectly proved that Dr. Lawson really was Kree, further confirming that she herself was truly Earth-born.
Was there any better news than learning who she was and what she should do in the future?
The fighter slowly docked inside the cruiser. Talos impatiently stepped off the fighter to search for his family. Along the way, Talos picked up a baseball from the floor. Unable to suppress his excitement any longer, he quickened his pace and continued onward.
Before long, the group arrived at the hall where the Tesseract was stored.
Li Feng quickened his pace and walked up to the Tesseract. He reached out and removed the glowing cube, his lips twitching faintly before he handed it to Carol.
Just as I judged back then, all I can manage is holding the cube for a few seconds.
Although Li Feng had only touched the cube for a few seconds, he already knew that the Space Stone's energy was far too advanced for a rookie Mage like him. Forget using the cube's energy—even drawing out a trace of it for his own use was impossible.
If he forced it, he would only be torn to pieces by the Space Stone's overwhelming energy and teleported across the universe, the kind of torn apart that included his soul.
That was also why Li Feng had known from the start that he could obtain the Space Stone aboard the Kree Cruiser, yet had been thinking about how to leave instead of getting involved in Captain Marvel's battle against the Kree.
Since the cube was currently little more than a useless burden to him, Li Feng had no interest in who could keep it safer. It was not as if this was his only chance to obtain the Space Stone.
Come to think of it, among the six Infinity Stones, the Space Stone appeared the most often in the Marvel Universe, didn't it? It was also the easiest stone to obtain.
When Carol took the Tesseract, Li Feng, who had been closely watching its energy, revealed a bitter smile. Carol truly deserves to be the protagonist. Before she even fully touched the cube, the energy in her body was already resonating with it from afar.
The Mana I cultivated through so much hard work was only as much as what Carol gained from holding the cube for a few seconds. The most infuriating part is that Carol doesn't even know her energy is skyrocketing.
Could it be that the Tesseract is planning to take Carol's surname? Look at it, eagerly feeding her energy like some simping lapdog. If Carol keeps holding the Space Stone, maybe in a few years the Space Stone really will share Carol's surname.
Taking advantage of Fury focusing on his steaming coffee, Li Feng quietly moved to the entrance of a passageway, waiting only for the Kree Yon-Rogg to arrive so he could make his getaway in an instant.
Since he was already here, how could he leave this cruiser without picking up a few benefits?
As Talos called out to his people, Skrulls emerged from the shadows one after another. Carol instantly understood that Talos had not merely been looking for the Light-Speed Engine and a new home. He had also been searching for his family.
While Li Feng complained that Talos's call sounded no different from Tarzan's, he kept his eye on the entrance to the hall, waiting for Yon-Rogg to appear so he could dart into the passageway.
Yon-Rogg did not disappoint Li Feng. Before long, he arrived in the hall with his men. The moment the hall doors opened, Li Feng vanished from before Yon-Rogg's eyes.
Yon-Rogg turned to glance at his men, signaling for one Regular Soldier to split off and capture the Li Feng who had just fled. As for those left at the scene, he did not believe these Skrulls and Earthlings possessed the strength to resist him—not even Carol.
Yon-Rogg activated the Force Field Device on his wrist, immediately forcing Carol to collapse to the floor. He ordered the Elite Soldiers to escort Carol and connect her to the Supreme Intelligence for brainwashing, while the Regular Soldiers searched the Cruiser for the Skrulls and Li Feng hiding aboard.
Strange. He had clearly sent someone after Li Feng, so why had that soldier not found him yet?
These elites would only assume that Li Feng was exceptionally good at hiding. They would never imagine that the soldier pursuing Li Feng had already kicked the bucket—after being stripped naked from head to toe, no less.
It could not be helped; Li Feng was poor. He had been coveting the armor worn by Kree soldiers for a long time. He had thought that since those uniforms could change color through energy, they ought to be able to change color or shape through magical power as well. After all, magical power was also a form of energy. Unfortunately, once Li Feng stripped the poor soldier of his armor, he realized he had been overthinking it. A regular soldier's armor was nowhere near as advanced as Carol's set. Other than providing a bit of defense, it had no other abilities.
That was only normal. Could ordinary soldiers on Earth possibly be equipped with the same weapons as special forces? Did he not know that special forces equipment was not only advanced, but expensive? If every soldier were outfitted with elite gear, the Kree would be driven bankrupt.
Li Feng spat at the Kree soldier he had taken out with a single Magic Playing Card. Tossing aside the armor, he inspected the Kree's gun and muttered, "Damn it. Looks like I'll have to wait until Carol takes out the elites before scavenging some benefits."
The corner of Li Feng's mouth lifted slightly. Sensing the energy within the weapons carried by the nearby Kree, he muttered to himself, "But before that, even if I already have a plan to fake my death, I still need to save Feiqiu and leave him with a good impression that I'm on the side of justice."
