Li Feng understood what Mordo was struggling with. It was nothing more than a clash between old and new beliefs, leaving Mordo at a loss.
The supposedly evil Flesh Golem had known full well that the Demon's target was himself, yet had still chosen to save Leono. It was only because his two short legs could not outrun the flying Gideon that Leono had ultimately been traded back with Frankenstein's notebook.
Now, to prevent Naberius from obtaining the secret of the Resurrected Corpses, the righteous Gargoyles had decided to kill Adam to stop the Demons from wreaking havoc in the human world.
Who was right? Who was wrong? If it had been in the past, Mordo would have cut down Adam without a second thought. But now...
Li Feng found Mordo's change of heart both speechless and helpless, though he also felt a little gratified.
He was gratified because he felt he had completed the task Ancient One had never explicitly assigned him. He could not say he had completely changed Mordo's extreme thinking, but he had at least caused doubts to arise in Mordo's heart.
What left him speechless was that at a time like this, when the Gargoyles were about to find the Demons' lair and begin a massacre, Mordo was questioning his entire life.
Patting Mordo on the shoulder, Li Feng smiled. "Since God allowed Adam to exist, it means He has other plans for Adam. Why would He let the Gargoyles kill him so easily? If you still haven't figured it out, maybe you should sort out your Magic Artifacts, charge into the Demons' lair, and vent those confused feelings."
Mordo thought for a moment, then looked up at Li Feng. "Perhaps. But right now, I really do want to kill some Demons to calm myself down."
With that, Mordo rose and left the room to prepare some tools so he could hunt Demons more effectively.
Li Feng lowered his head and glanced at the longsword at his waist. As he tucked the Magic Book into his pocket, he weighed The Key of Solomon in his hand and muttered, "Maybe I should find some Demon lackeys too and practice my swordsmanship."
Meanwhile, Adam had not even returned to his shabby room after leaving the monastery when he sensed that something was wrong. The moment he saw Wade was not in the room, Adam immediately realized Wade was in danger. He hurriedly picked up Frankenstein's experimental notes hidden in the corner and prepared to search for Wade.
From afar, Gideon saw Adam tuck Frankenstein's notes into his clothes and immediately launched a sneak attack.
Their battle ended quickly. Adam ultimately sent Gideon back to Heaven, and he also realized that the Gargoyles intended to hunt him down in order to sabotage Naberius's Resurrected Corpse plan.
Adam felt that his most urgent priority was finding Wade. After all, Wade was the first companion he had acknowledged, and he had to keep Wade safe.
Adam hurried to the Demons' lair and easily found traces showing that Wade had been there.
Adam knew there were far too many Demons in their lair. Charging in alone and fighting them head-on would be no different from seeking death. He needed allies.
Originally, the enemy of one's enemy was the best ally. But now, the Gargoyles were clearly on his list of enemies. Still, Adam set his sights on them. Deep down, he hoped both sides would perish together, so neither group would keep coming after him.
After burning Frankenstein's experimental notes, Adam deliberately allowed the Gargoyles to discover his trail, intending to lure them to the Demons' lair.
Li Feng, like Mordo, was waiting in the hall with a full load of equipment when he saw a Gargoyle rush in and say to Leono, "Your Majesty, we found the monster's trail."
Leono glanced at the Gargoyles in the hall, waved a hand, and transformed into her Gargoyle form. "Move out."
Watching the Gargoyles flap their wings and soar into the sky, Li Feng scratched his head and quietly asked Mordo beside him, "They can fly. What are we supposed to do? Open a Portal?"
Mordo turned and asked curiously, "Do you know where the Demons' lair is?"
"Remember that castle-like building we saw when we first came to this world?" Li Feng said disdainfully. "Didn't you discover there were a huge number of Demons there? If that isn't their lair, what is? Don't tell me the Demons are hiding in the sewers. They're Demons, not rats."
You were the one who told me that back then, and now you've actually forgotten? It's not just your thinking that changed. Has your brain changed too?
Mordo smiled awkwardly. After Li Feng's explanation, he recalled what had happened back then. He raised a hand to open a Portal, drew out a Magic Artifact, and said to Li Feng, "Ready? Party time."
Li Feng drew his longsword, shrugged, and muttered, "I'm not strong enough to throw a party like you. I'd better find some weaker Demons to practice my swordsmanship on."
With that, Li Feng stepped through the Portal and arrived on a rooftop across from the Demons' lair.
Li Feng surveyed the surroundings, then looked at Mordo, who was observing the Demons' lair. "I thought you'd open the Portal right at the entrance."
Mordo rolled his eyes at Li Feng. "Charge straight into their lair when we don't even know how many Demons are inside? Do you think I'm Master Ancient One, capable of ignoring sheer numbers? Wait until the Gargoyles arrive, then we'll join the battle."
After a long while, Adam finally led the Gargoyle Army to the Demons' lair after weaving through countless streets.
Li Feng crouched at the edge of the rooftop, looking at Leono across from him, then at Adam, who was surrounded by a group of men in black suits.
Li Feng was utterly baffled. He could tell that Leono had not recognized these suited men as Demons. Fine, the Gargoyles had dealt with Demons for so many years yet still could not distinguish humans from Demons. But the Demons even knew how to use science to strengthen themselves. Meanwhile, the Gargoyles used candles in their monastery and fought with swords.
Come on. The humans around them had undergone earthshaking changes over the centuries, yet they had no intention of changing at all? At the very least, couldn't they install some electric lights in the monastery?
Li Feng could only sigh at how rigid the Gargoyles were. Would it kill them to train a few scientists? With the Gargoyles' strength, each of them could carry a magically modified Gatling gun without even breathing hard. By then, forget thousands upon thousands of Demons—even the word "Demon" might vanish from the human world under the threat of machine guns.
As Li Feng silently mocked the Gargoyles for being old-fashioned, he turned to Mordo and asked, "How are we getting down there? Portal or stairs?"
As Adam split the first Demon in two, Leono finally realized this was the Demons' lair Adam had mentioned before and immediately ordered the Gargoyles to join the fight.
Mordo rose and said to Li Feng, "You were right. The reason God allowed Adam to exist was because He wanted Adam to lead the Gargoyles to the Demons' lair and completely eliminate the Demons from the human world."
Li Feng blinked in confusion. He felt Mordo's mind might have been rattled a little too hard. Has he become an idiot?
Completely eliminate the Demons from the human world? What a joke. The Gargoyles had failed to accomplish that for centuries, and Adam was supposed to—holy shit.
Li Feng stared wide-eyed at the Gargoyles charging into the mass of Demons. Unlike the Gargoyles of the past, who killed Demons with swords, these Gargoyles now had Magic Runes that looked familiar to Li Feng appearing across their upper bodies. Li Feng was certain those Magic Runes had appeared in The Key of Solomon's spellbook.
Besides that, two Gargoyles circled overhead, each holding an imitation Key of Solomon and loudly chanting incantations.
Li Feng looked speechlessly at Mordo. So when you said completely wipe out the Demons, you meant I gave The Key of Solomon to the Gargoyles, while Adam's only role was to lead the way?
An orange-yellow Portal suddenly appeared in the middle of the Demons, causing them to freeze for a moment. They all looked up at the two chanting Gargoyles and thought, What's going on? Chants and a glowing ring... the Gargoyles have stopped using swords and started using magic? Since when? The boss never told us about this.
When Li Feng joined the Demon-slaying ranks with his longsword blazing with fierce flames, Adam glanced at Leono, who was still on the rooftop. After casually killing a Demon, he ran into the distance.
Didn't the Gargoyles want to see how many human corpses Naberius had collected? Then follow me.
Leono noticed Adam leaving. She glanced at the Demons, who had either been eliminated or weakened into helpless wrecks, and felt victory was already within reach. She turned and said, "Follow Adam. He'll lead us to the corpses awaiting resurrection."
Not long after, Leono spotted Adam rushing out of a building from high in the air. At the building's entrance, she noticed several black body bags carelessly discarded on the ground. After thinking for a moment, Leono flapped her wings and landed beside them.
In Leono's mind, if there were corpses piled up at the entrance, how many corpses must be inside? Surely this building was not some legendary crematorium. She refused to believe Naberius had something like an incinerator on his turf.
The interior of the building had long since been excavated deep underground by Naberius. Leono's face turned pale as she looked at the endless human corpses, hanging like merchandise on warehouse racks as they quietly waited for Naberius to resurrect them through scientific means. Then he would summon the Ghost Army from Hell to possess those Resurrected Corpses.
While Leono followed Adam, Li Feng, who felt the Demons were too weak to be useful for honing his swordsmanship, quietly left the group and followed Adam as well. More precisely, Li Feng used the airborne Leono as a guide, jogging along behind her on the ground. Only after Leono entered the building storing the corpses did Li Feng quietly emerge from a dark corner and spread a scroll covered in Magic Arrays flat on the ground.
Besides practicing his swordsmanship, Li Feng had come here to try capturing a Demon. He had had plenty of chances to capture one while killing Demons alongside the Gargoyles earlier, but he was not sure what the Gargoyles and Mordo would think or do if he did.
Glancing in the direction Adam had gone, Li Feng felt a trace of regret. In the end, I'm still not strong enough.
In Li Feng's original plan, Demon Prince Naberius would have been the best trophy. But considering the difference in their strength, Li Feng felt this rookie should honestly capture a Demon with weak combat ability but the talent of a scientist instead.
After all, I can't even be sure that the Magic Array I made to seal Demons can seal Naberius. If it fails, I'll really be in trouble. I remember a Demon once coveting my body.
What if I walk up to Naberius and he immediately sees that I have talents in time and space, along with dark Mana? He'd be crazy not to possess me.
