Background / History

Uchiha Gen first identifies the Gene Lock after fusing with the T-Virus Serum. The serum enhances physical condition and allows a human who recognizes themself as human to qualify for unlocking; however, Gen initially senses the lock as an intact shackle and cannot immediately open it 14.

After seven days of modification, Gen successfully unlocks the First Stage through focused effort. Zheng Zha and Zhan Lan require stimulation from Gen’s Killing Intent, but instinctively unlock theirs once the serum-created foundation is in place. Their first activation causes severe genetic backlash, including convulsions and intense pain, before they recover 19.

Gen later theorizes the first five stages from Umbrella Corporation research: the First Stage concerns instinct, the Second bodily tissues, the Third the brain, the Fourth genes, and a possible Fifth Stage external energy control 29.
