Background / History

Tang Hao raised Tang San in Sacred Soul Village and adopted Madara after the latter arrived in the Douluo Continent. He made clear that Madara had no Clear Sky Sect blood and therefore could not bear the Tang surname. 1

He lived outwardly as a drunken, impoverished blacksmith, relying heavily on Tang San for household work. When Old Jack sought to send both boys to a Soul Master Academy, Tang Hao initially refused to let Tang San go, dismissing Blue Silver Grass as a waste spirit and prioritizing Tang San's cooking. 1 7 He also tested Madara's resolve with his aura; Madara's refusal to kneel led Tang Hao to recognize his extraordinary will. 7

After Tang San left for Nuoding City, Tang Hao took Madara into the forest to hunt his first spirit ring. Though he objected to Madara choosing the five-hundred-year Fire Wolf King, he guarded him throughout the dangerous absorption. 9 10 A month later, he forged Madara a sickle and war fan, then revealed himself as the Clear Sky Douluo before departing. 14

Tang Hao later remained hidden near the Continental Elite Soul Master Competition as Tang San's final safeguard against Spirit Hall. Madara confronted him over his prolonged absence from Tang San's life, but Tang Hao admitted that he had returned because he feared Bibi Dong would act. 219

When Bibi Dong attacked Madara at Spirit City, Tang Hao entered the battle, blocked her attack with the Clear Sky Hammer, and extracted Madara, Tang San, and their allies from the arena. 233 He subsequently trained Tang San in the Star Dou Great Forest, worked alongside him to forge weapons for Madara, and endured worsening internal injuries while refusing to prioritize his own treatment. 272 274

After learning that Spirit Hall had killed Madara, Tang Hao was overcome by grief and fury. He told Tang San the news and directed him to the City of Slaughter to grow stronger. 284

He masks his feelings behind alcohol, impatience, and a neglectful facade, particularly during Tang San's childhood. 1 7 His disagreements with Madara are frequent and heated, yet he respects strength, conviction, and the willingness to challenge limits. 7 14

Despite his harsh manner, Tang Hao is fiercely protective of his sons. He permits Tang San to pursue the Soul Master path, watches over him from the shadows, and intervenes directly when Spirit Hall threatens him. 8 219 233 His protectiveness can be severe: he orders Xiao Wu to leave because Tang San lacks the power to keep her safe. 234

His hatred of Spirit Hall drives much of his later conduct. Even while severely injured, he initially rejects treatment because he is focused on dying alongside Spirit Hall rather than prolonging his life. 274
