Background / History

Mumu was an unnamed child before meeting Madara and the Skywater Academy group. Madara initially considered naming him “Senju,” but Shui Bing'er proposed “Mumu” because of the boy's wood Martial Soul. Madara accepted the name and declared that he would take Mumu as his disciple, though he temporarily entrusted the child to Shui Bing'er and her companions while exploring deeper into the Star Dou Great Forest 134.

Spirit Hall had regarded Mumu's wood Spirit as a Waste Spirit, but Madara found it weak only in its current state and recognized its quality and potential. After retrieving Mumu, Madara began testing his Spirit power and took responsibility for his training 138.

Madara summoned Kurama to oversee Mumu's early exercises, which included tree climbing and water walking to develop Soul Power control. Mumu struggled with the drills but persisted, while Kurama alternated between training him and mocking his failures 139 145.

Madara later suppressed Mumu's natural breakthrough to establish a stronger foundation. He tempered Mumu's body and combat skills through sparring against suitable Spirit Beasts before allowing him to obtain his first Spirit Ring 169.

At Sunset Forest, Mumu fought a 500-year-old Spirit Devouring Vine alone under Madara's harsh supervision. Although Madara intervened when the vine fully restrained him, Mumu severed its roots himself and absorbed its ring, becoming a One-Ring Soul Master 172.

Following the Spirit Hall crisis, Madara entrusted Mumu to Xiao Wu in the Star Dou Great Forest. There, Mumu trained around the Lake of Life and lived under Xiao Wu, Er Ming, and Daming's protection, though his lack of Wood Release progress initially disappointed Madara 234 270.

Mumu is sensitive, emotionally volatile, and deeply attached to Madara. He can shift from despair to excitement almost instantly, particularly whenever he believes Madara dislikes or intends to abandon him 138.

Despite this sensitivity, Mumu is stubborn and determined. He willingly accepts difficult training, fights through fear of disappointing Madara, and continues attacking the Spirit Devouring Vine even while injured and exhausted 139 172.

Away from Madara's supervision, Mumu is mischievous and troublesome. He manipulates trees to play dangerous games, including dropping boulders onto Pan Chui's chest, and becomes a source of anxiety for the inn's residents, Er Ming, and Kurama 169 270.
