Background & History
Hongjun originated as an unremarkable member of the Three Thousand Primordial Chaos Demon Gods, ranking outside the top thousand. Through the largest fragment of the Jade Disc of Creation, he received Heavenly Dao guidance: his route to sainthood required Luohu’s elimination and the completion of the Heavenly Dao. 11
Aware that Luohu had reached Peak Quasi-Saint and was refining the Four Swords of Zhu Xian, Hongjun sought allies rather than face him alone. He calculated that the Zhu Xian Sword Formation required four saints to break, contacted powerful cultivators across the Primordial World, and eventually secured support for the Dao-Demon conflict. 11 18 19 20
During the final battle against Luohu, Hongjun wielded the Pangu Banner while the Jade Disc fragment protected him with purple qi; the Twelve-Petal Golden Lotus of Merit supported him beneath his feet. After Luohu’s self-destruction killed Ancestors Qiankun, Yin Yang, and Five Elements, Hongjun collected the masterless Taiji Diagram, Qiankun Cauldron, and Hongmeng Measuring Heaven Ruler without consulting Wang Shu or Yang Mei. 21 22
Hongjun later attained sainthood and summoned cultivators to Purple Firmament Palace, where his first sermon explained the path beyond Da Luo and lasted three thousand years. His later preaching introduced the Three Corpses Method, a spirit-treasure-dependent route to Quasi-Saint advancement. 26 28 32
At the conclusion of his third sermon, he accepted Laozi, Yuanshi, Tongtian, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti as disciples, bestowed them with treasures and Primordial Violet Qi, and appointed East King Duke and Queen Mother of the West to govern male and female immortals. He then announced his intention to unify with the Heavenly Dao. 42
Hongjun completed that union amid Primordial-wide auspicious phenomena. The world’s spiritual qi and law resonance increased, but the union also bound him to the Heavenly Dao’s rules and made the preservation of its order his central priority. 43 44
When the Witch and Demon Races devastated the Primordial World with their formations, Hongjun forcibly separated the combatants and imposed a 129,600-year truce, assigning the Demon Race to rule the heavens and the Witch Race to govern the earth. 58
Hongjun opposed Li Cha’s protection of the newborn Human Race. While Yang Mei held him back, Hongjun used the Creation Jade Disk to launch a time-space strike that exiled Li Cha into an unknown alternate dimension. 60 61
After the Witch Race entered the Underworld, Hongjun accepted Li Cha’s trade of Primordial Violet Qi in return for allowing the Ghost Gate Pass to open. He later attempted to stabilize the Heavenly Dao by granting Primordial Violet Qi to Kunpeng and Taiyi, while also trying to turn Chang Xi against Li Cha. 69 79
Hongjun sought to keep the Human Dao subordinate to Heaven. He arranged Di Jun’s residual True Spirit to reincarnate as Xuan Yuan Shi, punished Laozi after Fuxi’s Human Dao-aligned rule, and later instigated a catastrophic flood to suppress the awakening Human Dao. 85 91 95
After Jieyin and Zhunti’s demonic corruption became clear, Hongjun severed their master-disciple ties and expelled them from Purple Firmament Palace. He later appointed Haotian as Jade Emperor and Yaochi as Queen Mother to restore Heavenly Court authority. 96 104
For the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, Hongjun revealed the Investiture of the Gods List and entrusted Yuanshi with supervising its 365 divine positions. When Jiang Ziya and Ji Fa died, he negotiated with Pingxin for their resurrection, offering the True Spirits of the Ancestral Witches in exchange. 113 136
During the final Great Dao dispute, Hongjun initially joined Luohu, the Karma Demon God, and the Fate Demon God against Li Cha, believing Li Cha’s path endangered predetermined order. He later discovered that the two Demon Gods had manipulated both him and the Primordial World. After their defeat and sealing, Hongjun admitted his past mistakes and contributed Heavenly Dao Origin Qi and Chaos artifacts to the effort to revive the Ancestral Witches. 145 146 148 150
Personality
Hongjun is meticulous, patient, and calculating. Though his Chaos-era origin was comparatively ordinary, he built his position through planning, Heavenly Dao guidance, political maneuvering, and the careful use of karmic ties. 11 32
He presents himself as detached and impartial, but repeatedly acts to preserve Heavenly Dao control: distributing Saint opportunities, directing the Witch-Demon balance, restricting the Human Dao, and arranging the Investiture of the Gods. 42 58 83 113
His composure can fracture when his plans fail. Li Cha’s repeated interference, the strengthening of the Earthly Dao, and the Human Dao’s awakening provoke visible anger and increasingly forceful action. 31 70 85 95
