Chapter 30: Surrender
Looking at the Soul Ferrying Envoy kneeling on the ground and trembling, Lu Wu pondered for a moment before asking in a deep voice again,
"Death? You think betraying me will let you off that easily?"
Upon hearing this, the Soul Ferrying Envoy's body shuddered. The Soul Fire within his skull fluctuated violently, and he lowered his head even further.
"I beg Your Majesty to forgive me. Du Yan is willing to atone for his betrayal."
Bei Li, who had been watching from the side, was dumbfounded. She had not expected Lu Wu to pull something like this, much less for the Soul Ferrying Envoy to fall for it so easily and surrender just like that.
Originally, Lu Wu had wanted the Soul Ferrying Envoy to kill himself directly. But when he remembered that the envoy served the Ghost General Shana of Liuli District, another plan formed in Lu Wu's mind.
"Atone? How do you intend to atone?" Lu Wu asked in a grave voice.
As he spoke, the yin energy in the sky continued to gather and swirl, further enhancing the imposing aura of Lu Wu's manifested figure.
"This subordinate is willing to help Your Majesty reclaim the lost territory and restore Your Majesty's former glory!"
Lu Wu was delighted to hear that. Before he could even say anything, the Soul Ferrying Envoy had taken the initiative himself.
Lu Wu pretended to ponder in silence for a moment before slowly speaking.
"What do you intend to do?"
The moment Lu Wu spoke, the Soul Ferrying Envoy abruptly raised his head to look at him. "You are not the King of Beiqi. Who exactly are you?"
"Why do you say that?"
Lu Wu felt rather frustrated. He had no idea where he had gone wrong to be exposed like this.
"If you were the King of Beiqi, then no matter how useful I was, you would never spare me. I followed him for thousands of years. No one knows him better than I do. Besides, I witnessed the King of Beiqi's death with my own eyes. Even his soul power dispersed on the spot. How could it have been false? Who exactly are you?"
The Soul Ferrying Envoy's answer gave Lu Wu a headache. Sure enough, he was still too inexperienced.
"Who are you? How did you restore the underworld? Why have you come here? I suspect Third Ghost's death was also connected to you, as well as those creatures that suddenly appeared outside!"
The Soul Ferrying Envoy rose to his feet, his hoarse voice echoing through the underworld.
"That's right. My people killed that Ghost Overseer Commander, and Shana will be next!"
Since he had been exposed, Lu Wu saw no reason to hide it and admitted it openly.
Having received the answer to his doubts, the Soul Fire within the Soul Ferrying Envoy's skull surged. He slowly extended his hands, and two balls of black flame rose from his palms.
"You are truly bold, outsider. Bei Qi is not a place for you to run wild!"
Just as battle was about to erupt, Lu Wu spoke again. "Heh. Without the King of Beiqi, do you think Bei Qi is still whole?"
"That is not for an outsider like you to decide!" The Soul Ferrying Envoy swept out his hand, and the two balls of black flame shot toward Lu Wu.
Boom!
Lu Wu's body, formed from yin energy, was instantly shattered and turned into a cloud of Black Mist.
Yet Lu Wu controlled the yin energy again and reformed his body, this time appearing directly before the Soul Ferrying Envoy.
"Die!"
Fierce flames surged up and surrounded Lu Wu, burning him without cease.
The Black Mist scattered, and Lu Wu controlled the divine artifact once more, taking shape elsewhere.
"You can't kill me, Du Yan!"
Unwilling to accept this, Du Yan controlled the black flames to pursue Lu Wu's figure again and again, destroying him each time. After several dozen attempts, Du Yan finally realized that he truly had no way to deal with him and stopped.
After forming himself again, Lu Wu was about to say something when Bei Li, who had been watching nearby, spoke. "Wu, give me control of the divine artifact. Let me speak!"
Lu Wu froze for a moment, but he still nodded and handed the authority over to Bei Li.
Under Bei Li's control, that figure gradually became solid, transforming into a young man.
He bore a fifty percent resemblance to Lu Wu. He wore a purple Candle Dragon robe, and violet light flowed through his obsidian-like pupils. The faint pressure around him seemed innate.
A wild, domineering aura that looked down upon the world rushed forth. The familiar sensation nearly made the Soul Ferrying Envoy kneel again, but when he remembered that this man was not the King of Beiqi, he immediately straightened his back.
"Stop pretending! You are not him! You cannot scare me!"
"Du Yan, I am indeed not the King of Beiqi. But his bloodline flows within me. This land of Beiqi should be inherited by me!"
The Soul Ferrying Envoy had been about to continue mocking him when he saw the King of Beiqi's figure wave a hand, sending a drop of blood floating toward him.
Lu Wu felt incredibly awkward about where that drop of blood had come from.
Just moments ago, Bei Li had suddenly leaned over, grabbed his hand, and bitten down hard. It had hurt like hell.
The Soul Ferrying Envoy caught the drop of blood with a wave of his hand. He glanced suspiciously at the King of Beiqi's figure before ultimately swallowing it.
After standing in confrontation for a moment, the Soul Ferrying Envoy suddenly looked up in alarm.
"You truly are a descendant of the King of Beiqi?"
"I believe you already have your answer. Why ask more?"
The Soul Ferrying Envoy's emotions were incredibly complicated. He had just examined the blood and found that it truly contained the King of Beiqi's bloodline. Though extremely thin, it was enough to prove the identity of the person before him.
"Why have I never seen you in all these thousands of years? And why have you returned now?" the Soul Ferrying Envoy asked in a deep voice.
Hearing this, Lu Wu took back the control Bei Li had returned to him and spoke.
"Bei Qi belongs to the Lu Family bloodline. Even if Ancestor is dead, it must still bear the surname Lu!"
"Hahaha, little brat, I think you've gone mad. You want to fight the Ghost Kings and Ghost Generals? Are you even qualified?" The Soul Ferrying Envoy's hoarse laughter was especially grating.
"Whether I am qualified is not for you to decide. I am giving you one chance now. Submit to me!"
"Why should I?" An ugly crack split across the Soul Ferrying Envoy's face as he smiled.
"You have seen those creatures who call themselves Players, haven't you? You have killed them too, haven't you?" Lu Wu smiled as well.
"I have seen them! I have killed them!" the Soul Ferrying Envoy replied indifferently.
The moment those words left his mouth, the Soul Fire in the Soul Ferrying Envoy's skull suddenly began to leap violently.
"Impossible. Are you saying the reason those creatures' souls vanished and their soul power did not disperse is because of you?"
"You have mastered the Underworld Reincarnation Law!!!"
The Soul Ferrying Envoy was badly frightened by his own guess. The Law of Reincarnation in the underworld was a supreme power that even the King of Beiqi had never mastered. If the man before him truly possessed it...
Fear once again rose from the depths of the Soul Ferrying Envoy's heart.
"I will give you one final chance. Submit to me, or wait to be destroyed alongside Shana. The choice is yours." Lu Wu's tone hardened as well.
"How am I supposed to believe you? Your idea of reclaiming the land of Beiqi is too insane. I fear there will be no redemption."
This time, the Soul Ferrying Envoy did not refuse. Instead, he stared directly at Lu Wu as he asked.
"Do I look like a madman?" Lu Wu smiled.
"No." After a long silence, the Soul Ferrying Envoy spoke.
Then his body slowly sank as he knelt to the ground. "Greetings, Your Majesty!"
Before you continue
