Background
The Soul Clan is among the oldest and most enigmatic of the Eight Ancient Clans. Though it was not regarded as the dominant force in past great wars, it was noted for never truly falling into a disadvantageous position, leaving even the Ancient Clan uncertain of its full strength 280.
Its survival appears tied to the Spirit Devourer Clan's bloodline-devouring methods. Nihility Devouring Flame is believed to have consumed the last Spirit Devourer Clan Leader, allowing the Soul Clan to plunder other ancient races' bloodline power and treat them as sources to sustain its own lineage 345 349.
The Soul Clan exploited the weakened Xiao Clan after Xiao Xuan's failed attempt to advance to the Dou God realm, accelerating the Xiao Clan's destruction 345. Much later, it was implicated in the disappearances of the Ling and Shi Clans, whose sealed spaces were emptied of their populations; Soul Heavenly Emperor later admitted responsibility for the disappearance of the Spirit and Stone Clans 305 351.

Abilities & Methods
Bloodline Devouring
The Soul Clan possesses—or acts through Nihility Devouring Flame's possession of—the Spirit Devourer Clan's ability to seize ancient bloodline power.
- Ancient races are targeted both for their bloodline power and their Ancient Jades 349.
- The Yao Clan invasion employed black light specks that silently consumed Battle Qi and bypassed conventional Battle Qi defenses 335.
- Nihility Devouring Flame can create Spirit Devouring Creatures and transform through Spirit Devourer-related methods 340 349.
- The Clan's long survival and apparently inexhaustible bloodline are suspected to result from this predation 345.
Spatial Sealing and Infiltration
The Soul Clan can isolate clan territories and infiltrate hostile organizations over long periods.
- It sealed the Yao Clan's space during its invasion, preventing outside support from arriving 340 347.
- The Ling and Shi Clans vanished after their spaces were sealed; the method made the Soul Clan a principal suspect before its wider campaign was exposed 305.
- “Gu Yang,” an Ancient Clan elder, revealed that his soul had been replaced by Lord Void roughly a century earlier 353.
- Soul Clan agents also infiltrated the Lei and Yan Clans, enabling the theft of their heavily guarded Ancient Jades 355.
Resurrection and Death Formations
The Clan preserves and reuses dead powerhouses as living dead.
- Hun Yuan Tian and three other Eight-Star Dou Saints were resurrected to fight for the Clan 371.
- The four living dead formed the Four Directions Annihilation, Realm of Death, a formation that filled the battlefield with death aura and drained the vitality of living opponents 371 372.
- The formation forced the Four Clans Alliance to sacrifice a large number of experts to create a breach and escape 373.
- The revived elders' power was temporary; their death aura eventually worsened, limiting their continued combat ability 373.
Soul Arts and Soul Origin
The Soul Clan's affiliated experts employ soul-based combat techniques and collect Soul Origin.
- Hun Miesheng used the Soul Burial Technique, releasing black mist and soul-piercing sound waves after his physical defense failed 297.
- Hall of Souls branches had accumulated Soul Origin, which the Clan evacuated before those branches were destroyed 376.
- Nihility Devouring Flame later absorbed a massive quantity of Soul Origin to reach Emperor Realm Soul 377.
Equipment and Strategic Assets
- Ancient Jades — The Clan acquired the Ancient Jades of several ancient races while seeking the final Xiao Clan jade required to locate and open the Ancient Emperor's Cave Mansion 355 362.
- Black Flame Scrolls — Used to open passages for Soul Clan reinforcements during the Yao Clan invasion 340.
- Black Seal — A massive formation deployed against the Ancient Clan during the operation to seize its Ancient Jade 354.
- Hall of Souls branches — A continent-wide network used to collect soul bodies and Soul Origin before being deliberately evacuated 376.
- Black Flame passages — Escape and deployment routes created by Nihility Devouring Flame 343.
Relationships
- Hall of Souls — Subordinate organization and operational arm; ordered to cooperate with the Heaven Demon Phoenix Clan against Lu Chuan's associates 280.
- Nihility Devouring Flame — The Clan's greatest strategic asset, responsible for its devouring methods, spatial feats, and much of its hidden strength 349 383.
- Ancient Clan — Long-standing rival led by Gu Yuan; their conflict escalates into open war over the Ancient Jades and the Clan's bloodline predation 349 368.
- Yao, Lei, and Yan Clans — Primary targets for bloodline power and Ancient Jades; their resistance with the Ancient Clan forms the Four Clans Alliance 349 355.
- Xiao Clan — Destroyed after Xiao Xuan's failed breakthrough attempt left the Clan vulnerable 345.
- Lu Chuan — A major enemy whose intervention disrupts the Yao Clan invasion, subdues Nihility Devouring Flame, and helps reverse the Clan's final battle 342 409.
Major Arcs
Suppression of Lu Chuan's Forces
After one of its Four-Star Dou Saints was killed by Lu Chuan, the Soul Clan ordered the Hall of Souls and the Heaven Demon Phoenix Clan to attack Starfall Pavilion, the Black Alliance, and other forces connected to him 280. Its threats of overwhelming retaliation were undermined when Lu Chuan repeatedly defeated its high-ranking experts, including a Four-Star Dou Saint and Hun Qianmo 278 314.
Attack on the Yao Clan
The Soul Clan invaded the Yao Clan's sealed realm with Battle Qi-devouring black light and Spirit Devouring Creatures. Hun Jing and Hun Yan offered the Yao Clan survival only if it accepted subordinate status, which Yao Dan refused 335 340.
Lu Chuan's arrival prevented the annihilation of the Yao Clan and forced the attackers to withdraw. The failed operation exposed the Clan's bloodline-plundering methods and prompted the Yao, Yan, Lei, and Ancient Clans to unite against it 342 349.
Ancient Jade Operations
While confronting the Four Clans Alliance in the Ancient Realm, the Soul Clan used infiltrators and diversionary attacks to seize Ancient Jades from the Ancient, Lei, Yan, and Yao Clans 351 355. It also used the confrontation to reveal its hidden lineup: Soul Heavenly Emperor, Nihility Devouring Flame, and the Four Demon Saints 350.
Battle of the Burial Sky Mountain Range
The Soul Clan fought the Four Clans Alliance at the Burial Sky Mountain Range. It initially countered its numerical disadvantage by unveiling hidden Seven-Star Dou Saints and four resurrected Eight-Star Dou Saints 371 372.
Its Realm of Death formation inflicted catastrophic losses, but the allied clans broke it through mass self-destruction. The Soul Clan then suffered severe losses, including the deaths of Demon Saints and elders, before Soul Heavenly Emperor extracted the survivors 373 375.
Collapse of the Hall of Souls
Following the Burial Sky Mountain Range battle, the Four Clans Alliance destroyed the Hall of Souls' branches, Heaven Hall, and Earth Hall across the Central Continent. The Soul Clan had already evacuated its personnel and stored Soul Origin, treating the loss of the network as an acceptable strategic sacrifice 376.
Ancient Emperor's Cave Mansion and Defeat
The Soul Clan later joined the Four Clans Alliance in exploring the Ancient Emperor's Cave Mansion, temporarily avoiding open war to pursue its shared objective 388 392. When the final conflict began, Lu Chuan subdued Nihility Devouring Flame while Gu Yuan attacked Soul Heavenly Emperor, leaving the Clan unable to match the alliance 408 409.
Soul Heavenly Emperor opened a spatial rift and personally shielded the retreating survivors despite suffering further severe injuries. The Four Clans Alliance subsequently prepared to invade the Soul Realm and eliminate the remaining Soul Clan forces 409 410.
Trivia
- The Soul Clan's secrecy was so complete that even Gu Yuan admitted he had never fully understood its true capabilities 356.
- Its Four Demon Saints were individually comparable to the Ancient Clan's Three Immortals, although the Ancient Clan had one fewer elite at that level 348.
- Despite its reputation for indiscriminate slaughter, Soul Clan forces temporarily complied with Black Alliance rules in the Black Corner Region after Hai Bodong executed members who killed outside the designated combat zone 387.
