History
Yao Clan exile and fall
Yao Chen was born into the Yao Clan, but Yao Wan Gui framed and expelled him. He later rose independently to become the Medicine Venerable, a peak Nine-turn Dou Zun, an Eight-grade Alchemist, and the Pavilion Master of Starfall Pavilion 14.
His life collapsed when his disciple Han Feng betrayed and sold him out. Yao Chen perished, but his powerful soul and the Bone Spirit Cold Flame preserved him as a Soul Body 14.
Captivity under Lu Chuan
While secretly observing Lu Chuan's battle against Yun Yun alongside Xiao Yan, Yao Chen avoided detection and remained cautious of the Amethyst Winged Lion King 4. Lu Chuan later found and captured the master and disciple. Although Yao Chen attempted to resist with a secret technique, he was severely injured and subdued 13.
Lu Chuan exposed Yao Chen's identity, exile, former status, and betrayal by Han Feng, leaving him convinced that Lu Chuan somehow knew his past 14. Faced with destruction as a Soul Body, Yao Chen accepted a Soul Contract after Lu Chuan promised to restore his body and enable his revenge against Han Feng 16.
Restoration and revenge
As Lu Chuan's alchemist, Yao Chen refined pills, identified rare materials, provided strategic reports, and continued to guide Xiao Yan's cultivation 25 27 34. His Spiritual Power gradually recovered through Lu Chuan's resources, enabling him to take revenge on Han Feng 98.
Yao Chen killed Han Feng with the Bone Spirit Cold Flame, erasing both his body and soul. In gratitude, he offered Han Feng's Sea Heart Flame to Lu Chuan 98.
He refined an eighth-grade pill with three-colored Pill Lightning, after which Lu Chuan used a Dou Zun skeleton and Demonic Phoenix Blood Essence to reconstruct his body 172. Yao Chen completed the fusion and returned to life at Peak Six-turn Dou Zun cultivation 173.
Return to the Yao Clan
Yao Chen returned to the Yao Clan's space with Lu Chuan for the Medicine Canon, confronting the clan that had expelled him 320. When Yao Wan Gui insulted him, Lu Chuan forced the Yao Clan to reckon with Yao Chen's new status 321.
Yao Chen's sole demand was for his parents' names to be inscribed on the Yao Clan Monument, giving public recognition to the family connected to his unjust exile 321. He later continued advancing, eventually reaching early Six-star Dou Sheng 347.
Appearance
Yao Chen initially manifests as an ethereal, transparent old man due to his Soul Body state. Following his resurrection, he is once again an aged but fully corporeal figure whose aura commands fear from magical beasts and respect from other experts 14 173.
- Transparent, phantom-like appearance while lacking a physical body 3 14
- Aged appearance retained after reconstructing his body 173
- Often carries or wields a black ruler during combat demonstrations 12
Personality
Yao Chen is proud, experienced, and deeply conscious of the stature he held as the Medicine Venerable. He initially reacted with disbelief and humiliation when Lu Chuan forced him to acknowledge his weakened condition, but his desire for resurrection and vengeance ultimately outweighed his pride 14 16.
He is protective of Xiao Yan's future, requesting access to Lu Chuan's Cave Mansion so Xiao Yan could cultivate in its dense natural energy. He later advised Xiao Yan to abandon the Flame Mantra because their restricted circumstances made seeking and devouring Heavenly Flames unrealistic 25 52.
Despite his arrogance, Yao Chen respects the preservation of rare spiritual resources. He openly regretted Lu Chuan uprooting a Mysterious Mulberry Fruit tree, explaining that such treasures should be harvested without destroying their ability to regrow 52.
After Lu Chuan fulfilled his promise of resurrection, Yao Chen became notably loyal and described Lu Chuan's kindness as equivalent to granting him a second life 173.
