Background / History

Five hundred years before the main events, Otto released large numbers of imprisoned Honkai Beasts to create chaos and extract Kallen. His attempt to save her instead contributed to the circumstances of her death. Kallen rejected his plan, struck him for endangering civilians, and chose to protect her people rather than flee with him. 5

Otto spent the following centuries pursuing Kallen’s resurrection. His devotion drove him to conduct dangerous human experiments and pursue methods such as the Serenity Gem experiment, treating volunteer Valkyries as expendable despite the risks. 45 46

After learning of Bai Chen’s unusual transformations and stigmata, Otto shifted from watching him as a potential threat to cooperating with him. He supported research into Bai Chen’s stigmata as a route to safer artificial stigmata, while also seeking access to Bai Chen’s abilities and the possibilities they offered for reviving Kallen. 42 43 52

Otto ultimately accompanied Bai Chen and Jiu Xiao on a time-travel operation to retrieve Kallen’s body from the past. The group substituted the body, recovered only half of Kallen’s soul at first, and later used Bai Chen’s Hyperion Fusion to revive her fully. 68 69 70

His greatest motivation is Kallen. Otto’s five-hundred-year pursuit of her resurrection leads him to acts he recognizes as unforgivable, yet he remains focused on the outcome rather than the cost. When confronted by Kallen’s anger after the Serenity Gem experiment, he cannot defend himself and ultimately apologizes. 46 68 70

Despite his ruthlessness, Otto can be unexpectedly theatrical and absurd. In a World Bubble, he attempts to recruit Valkyries for Theresa’s dance troupe, then personally becomes “Magical Girl Otto” to defend her stage. 63 71
