Background / History

The Demon Kingdom bordered the Far East during the Empire of Light era. Its armies repeatedly crossed the region while invading human lands, plundering local populations along their route; consequently, many Far East races held no affection for the Kingdom. A small number of demons also lived in the Far East itself 35.

The Demon Race regards itself as the continent's strongest people and calls itself the God Race. Despite winning more battles than it lost against humanity, the Demon Kingdom historically failed to extend its territory west of the Guqi Mountains 81.

During the Far East War, Demon forces conquered the region and treated it as a colony and supply base for further westward expansion rather than as a land of subjects. Grain requisitions, forced labor, mining projects, and brutal suppression of unrest drove the Far East races into rebellion 103 111.

Society and Political Structure

• The Demon God Emperor is the supreme ruler of the Kingdom and commands its tribes. Succession is traditionally determined by strength rather than heredity; the strongest tribe produces the ruler 137.
• The Kingdom's military system is fundamentally tribal. Tribal chiefs and elders command their own warriors, and major campaigns are shaped by competing tribal interests as well as imperial orders 194 198.
• The Meng, Gaeon, and Yakun clans are among the Kingdom's major clans, alongside many smaller tribes. The smaller tribes collectively fielded the Fifteenth Army under Duke Lei Bao 235.
• Demon society places great emphasis on power. During the expedition into their homeland, local populations complied with the victorious expeditionary army's demands because they were accustomed to obeying whoever held superior force 250.

Appearance

The Demon Race has no single uniform appearance; its different tiers and clans vary considerably.

• Ordinary Demon soldiers are depicted with green skin and sharp claws 255.
• Imperial Clan members can look indistinguishable from humans except for sapphire-blue eyes, which identify their race 76.
• Armored Beasts, a mid-tier demon force, are generally over two meters tall and covered in hard scales and shells comparable in protection to human armor 65.

Military Characteristics

Regular Army

Demon regular forces can be highly disciplined and well organized. Duke Ludi's legion fields coordinated archers, axemen, spearmen, and shield bearers, and earned a reputation for high combat effectiveness during the Far East War 66.

• Demon troops are regarded as naturally warlike, fierce in combat, and generally superior to ordinary human soldiers in individual fighting 194.
• Armored Beasts are particularly dangerous as vanguard troops because they can break dense formations through raw strength and natural protection 65.
• Elite units such as Ling Buxu's troops can form combat formations quickly and maintain order under pressure 87.

Structural Weaknesses

The Kingdom's military strength is undermined by its tribal organization and limited logistical culture.

• Different legions may pursue separate clan ambitions instead of a unified strategic objective; during the western invasion, Meng Clan armies sought promised territory while Wenkra's Sixth Army pressed independently toward the Imperial Capital 198.

Rule of the Far East

After conquering the Far East, the Demon Race imposed heavy grain quotas and labor service. The summer and autumn grain collection of Year 780 was ordered by the Kingdom's upper echelons after poor harvests in the Demon homeland created a threat of famine 103.

• Soldiers ransacked households unable to meet grain quotas, destroyed food stores, burned homes, and beat civilians from Far East races 103.
• Large numbers of civilians were forced into hazardous mines to extract coal and metal for Demon military construction; many died in collapses and disease 103.
• Duke Ludi, serving as Governor-General, rejected petitions for relief, increased the grain quota, and executed the representatives who appealed to him 103.
• The alleged massacre in Shalu Province became a defining atrocity, hardening popular resistance throughout the Far East 103 118.
• The Holy Temple-led uprising was brutally suppressed, but continued taxation and repression ensured that resentment persisted 111.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Far East War and Occupation

The Demon Race suffers a major early defeat in the Third Hengchuan Battle, where thirty thousand Zichuan cavalry crush eighty thousand elite Demon troops, killing or wounding more than forty thousand and capturing over ten thousand. The Zichuan chronicles also credit Zichuan Xiu with killing Geshā, described as the Demon Race's greatest warrior 2.

Later, Demon forces achieve major successes in the Far East. Duke Ludi's legion advances after its victory at Moon Bay, while the Demon high command disperses its armies across seven provinces in an attempt to encircle and annihilate the remaining human forces 62.

Far East Rebellion

Demon occupation sparks a broad rebellion led by Zichuan Xiu as the King of Light. Rebel forces capture garrisons across Minsk Province, aided by local populations who rise against Demon defenders from within the cities 117.

Duke Ludi's punitive army initially retakes territory, but the Demon garrisons suffer repeated reverses after the Battle of Korni. Ludi ultimately cannot suppress the rebellion without reinforcements from the homeland 117 121.

At Teran City, the Far East Allied Forces defeat Duke Ross's suppression army. The remaining Demon soldiers are escorted back to their homeland, and Ross negotiates a peace treaty recognizing Far East independence 143.

Invasion of the Human World

The Demon Race later crosses into human territory east of the Guqi Mountains, causing widespread panic and forcing the Zichuan Family to investigate how the army entered 168.

After conquering Valen Fortress, the Demon God Emperor declares a westward campaign to seize the human world. Demon armies overrun Dama, Kuli, and Halada Provinces, creating a massive refugee crisis 194 198.

Demon forces reach and capture the Imperial Capital under Yun Qianxue, but their occupation degenerates into looting. Human defenders set the city ablaze and Di Lin's cavalry inflicts catastrophic losses on the fleeing army 207 209.

Final Campaigns and Fragmentation

The Demon God Emperor later assembles over 600,000 troops for a decisive battle at Batan, including the Third Army, Eleventh Army, Fifteenth Army, and human rebel forces under Mavi 235.

Following the Kingdom's defeats, Kadan becomes the new Demon God Emperor. Zichuan Xiu leads an expedition into Demon territory, where multiple clans surrender or join his forces, including the Goang and Lei clans 246 253.

Zichuan Xiu establishes the Wainsta Alliance for tribes willing to accept his protection. By the time the allied armies reach Fogelozubia, numerous Demon clans have submitted to him and he has ascended the Demon throne while retaining his Zichuan Family uniform 265 272.
