Overview
The Innate Realm develops and strengthens the qi, blood, physique, and strength cultivated in the Blood Qi Realm. Its cultivation methods are especially consequential because their effects carry into the Grandmaster's process of qi transforming the entire body. 261
The realm has four standard stages, corresponding respectively to the strengthening of qi, blood, body, and force:
| Stage | Primary Focus | Details |
|---|---|---|
| True-Liquid | Qi | Liquid true qi is condensed and compressed; at its limit, it can mix with blood. 329 |
| Blood-Shaking | Blood | Mixed qi and blood can be shaken to produce greatly increased destructive force. 283 329 |
| Bone-Tempering | Body | The third standard stage of the Innate Realm. 283 |
| Muscle-Tendon | Force | The fourth and final standard stage; advancement can produce extreme increases in bodily density, fascia, tendons, and musculature. 283 489 |
Great Innate Realm is the pinnacle of the Innate Realm, standing above Muscle-Tendon practitioners but below the Grandmaster. 381
Advancement
Breakthrough Paths
Most martial artists must take one aspect of cultivation to its limit to enter the Innate Realm. The three common paths are collectively called the Threefold Innate Breakthrough:
- Body breakthrough
- True-qi breakthrough
- Will breakthrough 163
A rare minority can advance through multiple paths at once, producing a stronger foundation. 163
Signs of Advancement
An Innate breakthrough renews the body, expels postnatal turbid qi, and gives rise to clear qi. Zhou Leng's successful advancement was accompanied by the Four Innate Sounds of qi, blood, bones, and flesh. 329
Afterward, an Innate practitioner's body is renewed from head to toe and reaches a fundamentally more complete state. Cultivation and combat still produce damage and flaws, however, requiring continuous replenishment. 331
Failed Attempts
Failed breakthroughs are normal. Insufficient power can cause failure, but an excessively strong body and dantian can also make advancement more difficult. Failure may merely deplete power or may cause injuries serious enough to delay another attempt. 250
- Realm-Guarding Pills protect the body from the damage of failed attempts. 250
- When a breakthrough fails due to excessive power, a Realm-Guarding Pill can absorb that power, transform it into a Universal Tonic Pill, and merge it into the body as Innate-strengthening nourishment. 250
- The known human limit is nine Realm-Guarding Pills during an Innate breakthrough. 328
Abilities and Traits
External True Qi
Upon reaching the Innate Realm, true qi becomes powerful enough to function as a martial artist's personal weapon. Its release distance increases, and altering its structure can strengthen its outward force. 274
- Condensed finger-technique true qi can extend beyond the body and pierce defenses. 304 350
- High-level defensive techniques can fuse true qi with the body and project it outward as powerful protection. 305
- Innate true-qi circulation improves markedly; an Innate practitioner can complete a Star-Gazing Formula cycle in roughly one hour, compared with three to four hours before advancement. 350
Enhanced Combat Capacity
The Innate Realm places far greater emphasis on real combat than the Blood Qi Realm. Stronger physique and true qi are important, but combat experience and Martial Will also become increasingly significant. 440
Innate battles are generally contained compared with Grandmaster-level engagements: clashes between Innate experts have a destructive range of roughly a dozen meters, while nearby forces retreat kilometers away from Grandmaster battles. 190
Physical Renewal
Innate advancement grants a body capable of withstanding much greater strain, but the increased force of qi, blood, and movement also creates stronger counterforces and a greater risk of self-injury. 336
- Blood-Shaking practitioners require strengthened meridians and blood vessels to endure high-speed true-qi flow and the force of vibrating qi and blood. 336
- Blood-Melting Pills strengthen blood and increase its true-qi capacity. 336
- Meridian-Fortifying Pills reinforce meridians, while Iron Wall Pills reinforce blood vessels. 336
- Foundation-Nourishing Pills repair the flaws and damage accumulated through cultivation and battle. 331
Strength Benchmarks
| Measurement | Benchmark |
|---|---|
| Raw lifting strength at Muscle-Tendon | An Innate practitioner without Strange Bodies or other additional powers can exceed 25 tons without true qi only at the final Muscle-Tendon Stage. 336 |
| True-qi lifting strength at Bone-Tempering | Reaching 120 tons with true qi generally requires at least the Bone-Tempering Stage. 336 |
| Innate Strength Rankings | A raw lifting result of 25 tons ranks around 50,000th, while 120 tons with true qi ranks beyond 300,000th. 336 |
| Population | Dragon Nation has accumulated more than one million Innate Realm martial artists, despite Innates representing far below one percent of the population. 336 |
Resources and Institutions
- Dragon-Tiger Pill — A universal tonic medicine that comprehensively strengthens human qi and blood; its medicinal power is too strong for anyone below the Innate Realm. 328
- Innate Mountain — A Martial Affairs Department institution connected to Grandmaster Island, providing Innate-only resource sites, cultivation grounds, missions, cooperation channels, and rankings. 213 332
- Innate Battle Path — A pre-breakthrough cultivation method in which martial artists seek same-realm experts from major human factions for real combat and martial-path tempering. 174
- Innate Realm classes — First Tier students may attend weekly classes taught personally by military Innate experts. 166
