A city street where classical style fused with sci-fi machinery. All manner of Flying Devices streamed back and forth across the ground and sky. An enormous floating projection broadcast war news, while smaller projections flashed advertisements dazzling enough to make one's eyes swim. Humans, demon beasts, even sprites—living beings of every kind and size made their lives in the city.
Zhen Bei held his fiancée's hand, staring at the city before him in a daze.
Several elementary school students in uniforms ran laughing into a convenience store. Some were human children, while one was a little tiger demon with a striped tiger head and tail.
Beside the convenience store stood a tiny storefront only two feet tall, bearing the sign of a hedgehog restaurant.
An old Daoist in long-sleeved robes, white-haired and riding a Large Gourd, drifted past them. A young man in short sleeves walked while holding a basketball and talking on the phone. A flower fairy in classical dress left a trail of petals in her wake. A tree demon in the greenbelt turned itself so its fruit could bask in the sun...
Suddenly, Zhen Bei felt something stir within him, and his gaze fixed on the parasol outside a dessert shop.
The two walked to the entrance of the dessert shop.
The table was covered with every sort of dessert and delicacy: ice cream, milk tea, cakes, and piles of snacks. A girl of around seventeen or eighteen was heedlessly wolfing them down with her head lowered, utterly unconcerned with appearances. She wore a white T-shirt, light-gray casual pants, and sneakers. Two tiny white horns rose from her black hair. Any ordinary human or demon would have taken her for one of the Half-Dragon People. She resembled Bai Yujun by eighty percent.
As Zhen Bei watched the
