Rain

Summer rain fell in a ceaseless drizzle, and pedestrians hurried to take shelter.

Bai Yujun stood beneath the cart's awning in an apron, yawning. The morning had been perfectly fine, but a sudden downpour had started after nine. There were few pedestrians, and the school gate was quiet for once.

The rain came hard, washing away the grease stains and charcoal ash left by the barbecue stalls, carrying dirt and cigarette butts in a mighty stream into the drains.

Unless necessary, she could not be bothered to interfere with the weather. Nature was best left to itself.

The Dragon Spear flag hung limply. The older sisters and aunties from the other stalls had gone to the supermarket to shelter from the rain and chat. Bai Yujun could not be bothered joining them when they had nothing in common, and watching rubbish drift away by the roadside was interesting enough.

The weather was hot, so she had worn slippers while running her stall today. Muddy water splashed into them, grinding against her feet.

The problem was very easily solved.

She raised a leg and stuck her foot beneath a building's drainpipe outlet, washing her feet and slippers. Nice and cool.

Xia came beneath an umbrella to eat.

"Little miss~ Give me a serving of spicy cold noodles, extra chili~"

Bai Yujun rolled her eyes, speechless. That stinky girl had actually called her little miss. Had she forgotten the days when she cried her eyes out and begged to have her head patted? Not even rainy weather could stop a foodie's determination.

With a few swift movements, she prepared a serving of spicy cold mixed noodles, pulled over a plastic stool, and sat beneath the cart's awning to eat.

"You're the little one. Don't call me that again."
