My Future Brother-in-Law's Attitude: Go with the Flow?
Gaius Castle.
Aaron, accompanied by Abei and Jeans, entered the living room.
A young man dressed in light-colored casual clothes sat on the sofa. His handsome and gentle face had a pair of clear and bright eyes, and his light golden hair shone even brighter under the lamplight.
"Long time no see." Lyon waved casually. "I've kept the guests waiting long enough."
"I've rushed back as fast as I can." Aaron sat down. "Also, could you please stop eating lollipops when you're talking to me?"
"Okay." Lyon bit the candy into a piece, then looked at Abei and said with interest, "Is this the dragon you raised? It looks quite cute."
"Do you even need to tell me? How long do you plan to stay at my house?"
"Not much, I'll stay until your school starts."
"No problem, you can stay here as long as you're happy."
"Uncle Jeans," Lyon said, looking at Jeans, "Would you mind stepping aside for a moment? I have something to discuss with him privately."
Jeans raised an eyebrow, then silently left without saying a word.
"Speak quickly if you have something to say," Aaron said impatiently.
"You dare say you don't know why I came?" Lyon punched Aaron in the chest. "I treated you like a brother, and you actually want to be my brother-in-law."
"You should know that there are some things that are not up to me to decide," Aaron said somewhat guiltily. "I don't know anything about this yet, but my parents and your uncles and aunts have already made arrangements for it."
"I believe that. The problem is my parents, and your uncle and aunt have also made arrangements."
Most importantly, my sister herself did not object.
"That's exactly what I'm most worried about," Aaron said in a low voice. "I've always treated her like a younger sister, and you want me to treat her like a younger sister too, right?"
Lyon:...
"That was in the past, now... let nature take its course."
"It's good that you think so too. As long as the two heirs protest together, then..." Aaron stopped mid-sentence, his eyes blankly staring at Lyon Darwen across from him.
"Uh... maybe I misheard. What did you just say?"
"I'm not joking."
"A generous gift of crabs!"
Aaron couldn't hold back any longer. He stood up from the sofa, pointed at him with a resentful look, and yelled, "Where's your sister complex?"
"Shouldn't you give me a good scolding, and then we can amicably reach a consensus to jointly oppose this marriage that's unfair to both me and Clea?"
"Logically speaking, that's correct." Lyon nodded in agreement, then changed the subject, "My sister didn't object."
Rumble!
Upon hearing this, Aaron felt as if thunder had struck his heart, and a storm was raging within him.
Damn it!
This is not what he expected!
"That's too hasty!"
Just because Clea didn't object, you're siding with them?
"Sigh!" Lyon sighed deeply. "I only found out about this around January of that year."
I was furious then, and I wanted nothing more than to go to Hogwarts and fight you to the death.
Aaron's eye twitched slightly. He actually hoped that Lyon would do that, so that he would have more confidence to refuse.
"It was Clea stopped me." Lyon gave a wry smile. "She was right in front of me; what could I do?"
"I despise you," Aaron said dismissively. "You should have persisted a little longer and made your stance clear."
"I did the same thing back then," Lyon said helplessly, "But I failed."
My parents, your uncles and aunts, gave me a severe scolding and made me kneel before the Ancestor Statue for three days as punishment.
"This is somewhat serious."
"Who says otherwise? Isn't it just that you want to bring out the family's Divine Artifact to make you back down?"
Aaron:...
"I take back what I just said. Kneeling for three days is too lenient for you."
"If that book of yours were to fall on me, would I even survive?"
"I was a bit impulsive at the time." Lyon pinched his nose sheepishly. "Clea knelt with me for three days, and I tried to persuade her to change her mind."
"And then it failed?"
Lyon nodded, without denying it.
"I told you that you are still young, and it's not too late to consider this kind of thing in ten or eight years, or even four or five years. But she told me that it's better to do this sooner rather than later, and it will be too late if you fall in love with someone else."
I told her that you only see her as a younger sister, but she told me that many couples start out like that, and they just need to find an opportunity to elevate the relationship.
Then I asked her a serious and profound question: Do you know what marriage means at such a young age?
Clea is truly my sister; she directly pulled out hundreds of classic works on marriage and love from the library and showed me her essay of tens of thousands of words.
No one knows the knowledge in books better Darwen. Those events, theories, and data are all true, and I have no way to refute them.
I realized that no matter what excuse I made up, she could always perfectly refute me. That's when I knew she was set on you.
"So... I was booked without even knowing it?" Aaron shook his head, rubbing his forehead. "You're his own brother, don't you have any authority as an older brother?"
"I took it out!" Lyon said helplessly. "I told her firmly that I didn't agree."
"And then you lost again, right?" Aaron had already given up hope.
"My sister is crying her eyes out in front of me, how long do you think I can hold out?"
Aaron scoffed and gave him the middle finger. "I despise you even more now."
"You've really misunderstood. I wasn't defeated by tears."
She asked me a few questions in return. First, who do you think is good enough for her?
Second, do I want her to grow old alone?
Third, will she be happy if she marries you in the future? Lyon laughed self-deprecatingly. "It's a very simple question, but it has troubled me for three whole days. In the end, I had no choice but to realize that she might be right."
Whether analyzed from an emotional or rational perspective, you seem to be the most suitable.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
Aaron clapped his hands and said sarcastically, "So you've convinced yourself like that?"
"No, actually I was planning to try and fight it out a bit more."
She said if I continued to act unreasonably, she would ask my older sister to stand up for me. If you were in her shoes, would you dare to resist?
"Uh... I probably wouldn't dare."
Aaron looked at Lyon, a hint of indescribable sympathy flashing in his eyes.
Adrian Klein, the eldest sister recognized by the four families in this generation, is a fifteen-year-old prodigy. She is poised, beautiful, and her strength far surpasses theirs.
She loves and cares for her younger siblings, but there are differences in how she cares for them.
She dotes on her younger sister unconditionally, and her attitude towards her younger brother is that no one but me can bully him.
The eldest sister's bloodline instilled in them deep and indelible memories of their childhood, which they still deeply admire even now.
"Now you understand, right?"
I can't persuade her, I can't bear to scold her, and hitting her is out of the question. My parents are very supportive of her engagement to you, and if nothing unexpected happens, my older sister will also support her.
What could I do? Saying "I disagree" is easy, but in this situation, it feels utterly powerless.
"I understand, I completely understand," Aaron said in a deep voice. "It must have been tough on you. I'm not much better off than you, being forced to think about this kind of thing at the age of fourteen."
"The Gaius family is special, and you are the most special one in the last hundred years," Lyon said meaningfully. "An early engagement is a tradition in your family for treating geniuses."
Aaron's lips twitched; he himself had no idea that Gaius had this kind of tradition.
"Tell me, what's your opinion?" Aaron looked directly into Lyon's eyes, hoping that he would stick to his point of view and not give in just because the situation was against him.
"Do you think my opinion matters at this point?"
"Just say it directly."
Lyon pondered for a few seconds before speaking, "I neither agree nor disagree."
After hearing the first half, Aaron breathed a heavy sigh of relief. Lyon was indeed his brother; although he was alone and outnumbered, he still supported him.
After hearing the second half, he felt utterly abandoned, as if he were the only one in this world who was hurt.
"You... you really make me so hopeful."
"This is a last resort." Lyon's feelings were also somewhat complicated. "If I oppose it, almost everyone will be on the opposite side of me. How can I oppose it?"
I agree, but I also feel uneasy.
Why does Clea value you so much? I'm her own brother, and she doesn't even care about you.
The fact is, whether I like it or not, you are the most outstanding among the younger generation, and given the relationship between our two families, she won't suffer any injustice in the future.
"Heh!" Aaron sneered. "Don't jump to conclusions so quickly."
Like I said, I only see her as a younger sister. I can do my best to make her happy, but that absolutely does not include offering myself up to her.
"It's fortunate that you think that way." Lyon's lips curled up slightly. "My sister has liked you since she was a child, and that's because she has good taste. If you had wanted to marry her when you were still young and ignorant, I really wouldn't trust you, you beast."
Aaron opened his mouth in surprise, wanting to say something, but then he was speechless.
Do you know why I'm staying at your house for two months?
I just wanted to see your current living conditions and let the facts convince me.
"You're just fooling yourself. Don't you know who I am?" Aaron rolled his eyes speechlessly. "There's absolutely no way there could be a relationship between us."
Upon hearing this, Lyon's face darkened, his pupils turning icy cold. "You mean you don't like my sister?"
Gollum!
Aaron's apple bobbed up and down. "That's not what I meant. I meant it was so sudden. I wasn't prepared at all."
Also, don't even think about fighting; you can't beat me.
"I don't deny that. It concerns my sister, and if I'm unhappy... I'll fight tooth and nail."
Aaron gasped; he had no doubt about the truth of those words.
"Okay, but what if I already have someone I like?"
"You can't break us up for Clea, can you?"
