Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Ten-Tails Jinchūriki 602 After replacing the Ten-Tails core in his body, Aizen becomes the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. He re-smelts Death God Masks with Hōgyoku and Truth-Seeking Ball power. 602

Background / History

Aizen first appears when Kana and her daughter Karin are held captive by wandering ninja. He offers Kana the power to protect herself; after she accepts, she kills her captors and becomes fiercely loyal to him. Aizen subsequently promises Kana’s revived Uzumaki ancestors that he will eventually find bodies capable of housing their souls. 336 339

He revives four Uzumaki ancestors through Death God Masks, subdues them with spiritual pressure, and exposes the fate suffered by surviving Uzumaki after their clan’s destruction. He uses their anger and desire to restore their clan to secure their cooperation. 337 338

In the Land of Iron, Aizen enters the dueling arena to gather body-tempering methods. He defeats every challenger, including General Mifune, while presenting himself as a wandering samurai researching a more efficient way to use physical energy. 340 342

Aizen joins Akatsuki after Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan approach him. He presents a deliberately ambiguous story of being an “undead of an era gone by,” claiming that he awoke after a catastrophe predating Chakra and sought the enemy connected to it. The story earns the trio’s sympathy while obscuring his actual motives. 343 345

He later manipulates Sasori into joining his plans, guides Toneri toward restoring the Byakugan and awakening the Tenseigan, and builds the Void organization around indebted or vulnerable recruits. 360 361 373 378

Aizen’s identity is eventually exposed as that of a parallel-world Shimizu Soseki. He dismisses the importance of names, allowing others to continue calling him Aizen. 664

Appearance

Aizen is a man with black-rimmed glasses and a composed, faintly smiling demeanor. He is seen sitting casually above a battlefield while observing the conflict below. 494

  • Wears black-rimmed glasses. 494
  • Has been photographed in samurai attire during his Land of Iron duels. 342
  • Often carries or improvises a sword, including using a severed Wood Release branch as a blade. 341 446

Personality

Aizen is calculating, patient, and highly skilled at tailoring lies to his audience. He frames manipulation as compassion, offering protection, resurrection, power, or purpose to people such as Kana, Sasori, Toneri, Black Zetsu, and Akatsuki’s founders. 336 361 373 523

He remains calm under direct threat, including when trapped in the Kamui Dimension or attacked by multiple opponents. Rather than relying solely on force, he prefers to conceal his strength, arrange favorable circumstances, and make targets believe that his plans are reasonable. 417 445 446

Despite his ruthlessness, Aizen deliberately limits lethal force when possible. He states that Illusion Arts are his preferred method because they are less likely to kill people. 446

Abilities & Skills

Illusion Arts

Aizen’s primary specialty is Illusion Arts capable of overwhelming conventional genjutsu defenses and altering opponents’ perception of reality.

  • Can place targets into detailed illusions drawn from their memories, as when he recreated Sasori’s childhood home and family. 361
  • Can deceive targets into perceiving physical attacks incorrectly; Sasori’s poison needles veered away from Aizen after he “deceived the world.” 361
  • Can remotely control individuals such as Ao, though he cannot maintain that control without his main body being present. 394
  • Can control vast numbers of targets by borrowing the Dream World’s power; this allowed him to command hundreds of thousands of Demonic Beasts and Allied Forces ninja. His normal range is substantially more limited. 494
  • Can manifest replicated forces through Izanagi, including illusionary Allied Forces capable of using the originals’ signature techniques. 596
  • Has used Kotoamatsukami through Shisui’s eyes to influence Obito and control Isshiki. 525 591

Spiritual Pressure and Soul Manipulation

Aizen possesses exceptional spiritual power and extensive knowledge of souls, Death God Masks, and Impure World Reincarnation.

  • His spiritual pressure can immobilize or intimidate powerful souls, including Uzumaki ancestors and Sasori. 338 377
  • Revives and houses deceased Uzumaki ancestors within Death God Masks. 337 339
  • Extracts souls for later use in Impure World Reincarnation and develops puppet vessels to give deceased souls physical forms. 339 378
  • Absorbs souls directly; even Madara’s soul can only resist for several seconds before being subdued. 591
  • Sends twenty-six Death Gods into the Underworld to create chaos and weaken the Six Paths’ connection to it. 589

Swordsmanship and Physical Combat

Aizen claims he does not truly know swordsmanship, attributing his victories to superior strength, speed, vision, and experience. His practical swordsmanship nevertheless overwhelms expert samurai. 341

  • Defeated every dueling-arena opponent in one or two moves, including Land of Iron swordmasters. 340 341
  • Deflected Mifune’s Iai: Crescent Moon with a quick-draw slash and defeated Mifune’s Soul Severance technique through raw strength. 341
  • Can produce cutting attacks through pure physical force. 361
  • Wields improvised weapons effectively, turning a severed Wood Release branch into a sword against Obito, Shisui, and Black Zetsu. 446
  • Creates large-scale sword arrays, including thousands of golden flying swords and a ten-thousand-sword barrage against Isshiki. 622

Regeneration and Constructed Body

Aizen’s body is an energy-based shell formed from Dragon Vein Chakra around a Ten-Tails core. It protects a fragment of his exceptionally powerful soul. 426 446

  • Can reform immediately after being pierced, dismembered, shattered, or reduced to dust. 445 446 646 663
  • Can transform between tangible and intangible states; a torn-off arm can re-form from light and shadow. 661
  • Possesses chakra reserves described as effectively inexhaustible under normal conditions. 446
  • His energy can be depleted by strenuous fusion; after separating from Soseki, his reserves fall to roughly seventy percent. 427

Hōgyoku and Truth-Seeking Ball Techniques

Aizen uses the Hōgyoku as both a source of advancement and a component in broader plans involving souls and planetary consciousness.

  • Intended to use Underworld souls as material for a Hōgyoku designed to stabilize Kaguya’s damaged soul. 588
  • Uses Truth-Seeking Ball power to form black swords capable of piercing powerful Ōtsutsuki opponents. 646 661
  • Re-smelts Death God Masks with Hōgyoku and Truth-Seeking Ball power, increasing the strength of weaker Espada members more substantially. 602
