With his health restored, the future held limitless possibilities. There were so many things he wanted to do.
He could even manage the village himself instead of controlling Pain for everything.
Thinking of all the things he could accomplish, he soon fell asleep in bed with a smile on his face.
Meanwhile, Konan and Alternate Konan were chatting in the room.
Alternate Konan told her about her childhood—how she, Yahiko, and Nagato had gone on adventures together, stealing food from others just to survive.
By comparison, Yahiko and Konan had been far luckier. They had arrived at the Cloud Clan Grounds when they were six.
By now, they had become inseparable members of the Windcloud Clan.
Master, master's wife, and Senior Brother had all taken excellent care of them. Their strength had advanced by leaps and bounds. It could be said that Yahiko and Konan had obtained everything shinobi dreamed of.
"I really envy you two," Alternate Konan said, sorrow clouding her eyes.
If they could have lived in this world too, would their ending have been different?
Would Yahiko not have died either?
Konan sensed Alternate Konan's emotions and realized she had said too much.
"Sorry, Konan. I wasn't trying to show off."
Alternate Konan shook her head. "What's there to apologize for? We're sharing our life experiences. How can that count as showing off?"
Seeing that Alternate Konan did not mind, Konan relaxed. Still, she changed the subject afterward.
Sure enough, once they switched topics, the two became much more talkative and shared plenty of interesting stories.
Alternate Konan's experiences had been far broader than Konan's.
After all, she had struggled her way through a harsh place like the Rain Country and even founded the Akatsuki. She had practically made a living with a blade at her throat.
