Background / History

Tongtian led the Intercepting Sect, whose doctrine taught without discrimination and gathered ten thousand immortals. He eventually recognized that its mixed membership—including disciples burdened by sin and karma—would endanger even its virtuous members when calamity arrived. He expelled more than six thousand disciples, retaining only those of profound morality. 1 9

After being guided by Lin Dong of Penglai Immortal Island, Tongtian concluded that the Intercepting Sect faced destruction through karma, the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, and the schemes of the Saints. He publicly abolished his Saint position by dispersing his Primordial Violet Qi and severing his Primordial Spirit’s connection to the Heavenly Dao. 1

Tongtian continued seeking Lin Dong’s guidance, learning that Hongjun intended to use calamities to weaken the Mystic Gate, promote the West, and settle karmic debts. He reorganized his remaining disciples, ordered them to study the Saints’ strategies, and forbade them from damaging the Primordial Era world. 2 4 5

Personality

Tongtian is decisive, protective of his disciples, and increasingly strategic. He disbanded his own sect and surrendered his Saint position rather than allow his virtuous followers to be consumed by its accumulated karma. 1 2

He values facing hardship directly. When Yuanshi proposed conceding to protect the Eight Immortals from Yang Liu Daoist, Tongtian refused, maintaining that the Biyou Palace lineage must confront difficulties rather than retreat from them. 26

Tongtian is also openly defiant toward manipulation and bad faith. He exposed Zhunti’s hypocrisy, disrupted Hongjun’s plans before the Saints, and condemned Yang Mei for breaking his word. 3 5 32
