Background / History
Yan Kuan is a transmigrator whose soul first entered the Alternate Self of a vegetative person. A clone of Flame Emperor Xiao Yan—carrying Xiao Yan's inheritance—was rejected by that universe's laws and self-destructed, but not before allowing Yan Kuan to be reborn in another Alternate Self's world as the inheritor of the Empyrean Flame. 4
Reborn into the early 1980s with memories that gave him decades of foresight, Yan Kuan initially saw the era's economic opportunities as an advantage. His guidance in connecting Hong Kong and mainland channels contributed to the Yan family's rise, while he concealed a flame-shaped mark on his forehead and his unusual eyes. 3 8
Because spiritual energy was nearly absent in his world, he secretly cultivated the Flame Mantra: Foundation Forging Chapter over a gas stove, using ordinary flame as a substitute for spiritual energy. This gave him exceptional physical strength even before he established formal cultivation. 4
The Trigram Treasure Box later provided pure lunar spiritual energy and knowledge of the Shrouding the Heavens cultivation system. Yan Kuan fused the Burning Art with the Wheel Sea Chapter, creating a fire-aspected cultivation method capable of transforming divine power into flame. 6 7 9
He chose to specialize in a single secret realm, focusing his foundation on the Wheel Sea. His Nine Deaths and Nine Lives transformation and the completion of his innate-acquired vision elevated him into an Ancient Great Power. 52 86 87
Appearance
Yan Kuan is generally described as an elegant, immortal-like young man with jade-like skin, delicate features, and a composed bearing. His appearance changes visibly during major transformations. 9 68
- A faint red, flame-shaped mark is present on his forehead. 3
- His normally black eyes can become blazing golden-red Fiery Golden Eyes. 8
- During Nine Deaths and Nine Lives transformations, his hair can turn silver and dragon-scale-like patterns appear across his skin. 68
- His first Dao Palace Deity resembles him, but has flame-like red hair and crimson battle armor. 234
- During his postnatal transformation, his body radiated divine light and even his hair took on a golden luster. 329
Personality
Yan Kuan is intensely ambitious and unusually farsighted. From childhood, he planned around both his foreknowledge and the dangers of the coming Golden Age, prioritizing the strength needed to protect himself and his family. 3 7
He is cautious in high-risk environments, preferring preparation, terrain study, contingencies, and controlled risk over reckless pursuit of treasure. He refused to enter Kunlun's Immortal Pool without the true Immortal Treasure Map and methodically prepared before exploring deeper into the Kunlun Forbidden Zone. 52 58 84
In battle, Yan Kuan is calculating and deceptive when necessary. He uses incarnations, formations, hidden techniques, and deliberately feigned weakness to overturn stronger opponents. 77 197 367 He is also ruthless toward enemies he judges irredeemable, refining defeated foes and destroying hostile lineages without hesitation. 57 149 209
Despite his domineering confidence, he values those close to him. He trains his parents, protects Xiao Nannan and Little Tingting, supports Ji Biyue's ambition, and actively arranges Shi Hao's cultivation and future. 30 197 248 535
