The Vanished Headhunters
A pale light appeared on the horizon, but the night sky remained a deep blue as the stars gradually faded.
The sounds of battle outside blended together: the strange roars of the Highland Headhunters, the shouts of the Elf Warrior, the neighing of warhorses, and the clanging of weapons all intertwined, creating a chaotic and unsettling atmosphere.
The Grantham mine owner threw off the blanket and got up from the mattress.
He peered out from the tent entrance for a moment, then pulled a small, golden dagger from his trouser leg.
The Grantham mine owner's two wives trembled with fear and hurriedly hid in a corner of the tent.
Two Elf Warrior stood guard behind the Grantham mine owner, also keeping an eye on the situation outside. Some Highland Headhunters, with their agile movements, tumbled and leaped around the camp. They wore gray leather armor and easily became gray shadows when they ran.
The Elf Warrior hastily engaged in battle, and every now and then one of Elf Warrior would fall, covered in blood, using a thin sheet to cover his pale body.
The Grantham mine owner was clearly used to big scenes and was not intimidated by the chaos outside. Instead, he grabbed a dagger and stepped out of the tent.
As the Grantham mine owner emerged from his tent, a group of the Mine Private Army also crawled out of their tents.
At the order of the Grantham mine lord, the Mine Private Army rushed towards the Elf Warrior around them. Usually, several Mine Private Army would tackle one Elf Warrior Elf Warrior, working together to pin him down, then seize his weapons and stab Elf Warrior to death.
The private army warriors who seized the armor and longswords charged ahead, specifically targeting lone Elf Warrior.
A group of unarmed Mine Private Army quickly dealt with more than a dozen Elf Warrior, and Elf Warrior immediately rushed over.
The Silver Moon Elf Warrior discovered that the Mine Private Army in the prisoner-of-war camp had also joined the battle and were even pointing their spears at their own side.
These Elf Warrior were already being suppressed by the Highland Headhunters, and these armed Elf Warrior were just barely holding on. Now, these Mine Private Army suddenly rushed up from behind.
The defensive line that the Elf Warrior of the Logistics Regiment had just formed was instantly overrun by the Mine Private Army.
The Highland Headhunters, with black totem patterns on their faces and carrying War Blade, moved nimbly through the camp.
When the headhunters saw the Mine Private Army Mine Private Army leaving their camp, they charged towards them.
The Grantham mine owner emerged from the Mine Private Army from the mines, joining forces with the Highland Headhunters to launch a pincer attack, causing the Elf Warrior of the Logistics Regiment to retreat steadily through the camp.
Commander Berkeley was covered in blood. He led a squad of Elf Warrior and fought his way through the camp, trying to get all the Logistics Regiment members to come to him.
The Highland Headhunters swarmed around the perimeter to ambush and kill, and within a short quarter of an hour, the camp was littered with corpses.
Commander Berkeley regretted it somewhat. When he left the mining fortress, Captain Yalige had asked him if he wanted an escort... Their reconnaissance squad could easily take the Logistics Regiment to the Valley Camp, but Commander Berkeley politely declined.
A bloody hole appeared in the waist of the Commander Berkeley, and the fabric below his waist was almost entirely stained red with his blood.
He pulled a bottle of Life Potion from his pouch, bit off the cork with his teeth, and gulped it down.
He then pulled out a bottle of Lion King's Power potion from his Magic Pouch and drank it down without hesitation. He kicked a Mine Private Army army warrior who was lunging at him and slashed a wound on the warrior with his Elf Long Sword.
Commander Berkeley wiped the blood from his forehead and charged toward the north side of the camp once more.
Commander Berkeley couldn't tell exactly how many Highland Headhunters were raiding the camp, but he knew that the Mine Private Army numbered at least three hundred...
The Mine Private Army joined forces with the Elf Headhunters and wreaked havoc in the camp.
Seeing the Elf Warrior fall one after another, Commander Berkeley felt an indescribable bitterness in his heart. Now it was no longer about whether or not they could defeat the Highland Headhunters, but how to escape from this battlefield where defeat was already inevitable.
Several trusted men surrounded the Commander Berkeley, while behind him was a large group of blood-soaked Elf Warrior.
Commander Berkeley shouted as he walked, and soon reorganized a defeated Elf Warrior. Under his leadership, these Elf Warrior formed a defensive line in the camp, and everyone retreated towards the valley camp.
The headhunters rode argali sheep in pursuit...
An orange Magic Signal Flare exploded into countless fragments in the night sky, disappearing into the night sky a few seconds later.
"Forget about the others, keep up with me!"
Commander Berkeley shouted at the top of his lungs, and then continued charging north.
The Highland Headhunters were like sharks circling a school of fish, constantly devouring the Elf Warrior.
Commander Berkeley quickly ordered the other Elf Warrior to continue north, while he, clutching his wounded waist, thrust his longsword at a headhunter who leaped towards him, the sword grazing the headhunter's thigh before passing through...
The battle continued until dawn. Finally, the Elf Warrior at the Valley Camp saw the distress signal and a troop of cavalry charged out of the valley. They were clad in silver armor and rushed towards the battlefield like a whirlwind.
Commander Berkeley stopped when he saw the Silver Moon Elf Warrior coming into view as reinforcements.
At this moment, he had more than a dozen bloody holes in his body. The reason he was still able to continue fighting was not only because he had drunk a bottle of high-quality Life Potion, but also because of his own willpower.
His personal guards were also covered in blood...
Commander Berkeley stopped, plunged his longsword into the chest of a Mine Private Army, and was unable to pull it out.
He collapsed to the ground, and the two Highland Headhunters practically trampled over his corpse as they chased after the other Elf Warrior.
A strange whistle rang out on the battlefield, and all the Highland Headhunters stopped in their tracks. They called to their mounts, and a large herd of argali sheep came up from behind. The Highland Headhunters, their waists adorned with the heads of Elf Warrior, leaped onto the backs of the argali sheep and turned to retreat towards the mine.
The Highland Headhunters are like a whirlwind, coming and going quickly.
Meanwhile, the Grantham mine owner, along with a group of the Mine Private Army, seized some horses from the chaotic camp. The elven soldiers mounted their horses and followed behind the Grantham mine owner, chasing after the retreating Highland Headhunters.
A group of Elf Warrior who had miraculously survived could no longer support their exhausted bodies and sat down on the ground.
When the reinforcements from the Valley Camp arrived at the battlefield, they saw a scene of utter devastation and shock. The cavalry captain who had come to reinforce them immediately ordered his men, "Quickly, rescue them!"
He then saw a group of Elf Warrior surrounding a corpse. The cavalry captain recognized the blood-covered body lying on the ground as Commander Berkeley of the Logistics Regiment.
"How could this be?" an elven cavalry captain exclaimed.
"A group of Highland Headhunters... we don't know where they came from, they actually kidnapped the prisoners from the mine while we were asleep and even launched an attack on us," replied a blood-covered Elf Warrior from the logistics Logistics Regiment.
"Damn it, you guys wait here for reinforcements, we're going after them!" The cavalry captain was furious and led his men in pursuit of the square formation where the Highland Headhunters had disappeared.
The Highland Headhunters ran along the Mountain Road for more than ten kilometers and came to the edge of a mountain ridge. They quickly rushed into the rocky slope of the ridge.
These Highland Headhunters returned with a full load; they couldn't even wait to reach safety before wanting to see their spoils.
The headhunter captain wiped the blood off the War Blade War Blade in his hand before sheathing it.
A group of Highland Headhunters also jumped off the argali sheep.
The Grantham mine owner, leading his Mine Private Army, followed closely behind and arrived at the rocky beach.
A group of private soldiers wearing stolen armor and carrying standard weapons surrounded the Grantham mine owner. With these private soldiers around, the Grantham mine owner clearly became more assertive.
After dismounting, he went directly to the Highland Headhunters and expressed his gratitude.
The Highland Headhunters Captain, whose face was as grotesque as Ghost Talisman, revealed an indescribable, strange smile. He patted the Grantham Mine Owner on the shoulder, signaling him to continue following the group into the mountains.
At this moment, the Grantham mine owner was so weak that he would have collapsed to the ground long ago if his guards hadn't been supporting him.
The Grantham mine owners and their private army could only continue following the Highland Headhunters deeper into the mountains. Many hunters stood on the mountain ridges, gazing at the surrounding sky. Whenever a Silver Pegasus Warrior flew overhead, the Elf Headhunters would hide in the shadows of the rocks.
After walking for a while, the Grantham mine owner finally entered a very secluded cave.
Although the entrance to the cave is not very large, the interior space is very large, and there are stalactites everywhere in the cave.
Both argali sheep and warhorses can be led into the cave, which is the hiding place of these Highland Headhunters.
The cave showed signs of habitation; a group of Highland Headhunters left the argali sheep aside and began to count their spoils.
The Grantham mine owner, dragging his nearly numb legs, passed by one Highland Headhunters after another and arrived before the Headhunter Captain. He first expressed his gratitude to the Headhunter Captain, whose face was covered with black magic patterns.
The Grantham mine owner had seen this Headhunter Captain.
They had met this headhunting captain when the mine owners banded together to hire headhunters to capture Half-Elf.
The headhunting captain also seemed dissatisfied with their performance, frowning as he said to the Grantham mine owner, "What's going on? Do you know how many excellent headhunters we lost when the Silver Moon Elf Legion entered the Pagisto Plateau this time!"
When the Grantham mine owner saw those fierce eyes, his legs involuntarily cramped up.
Little did he know that the Silver Moon Elf Legion would come to the plateau, and now even his mines had been occupied by the Silver Moon Elf Legion, leaving him a completely homeless and pitiful man.
"My losses aren't small either. I've lost all my mines. All I want now is to take them back, get what's rightfully mine, and then escape... Are you interested?" said the Grantham mine owner.
The Headhunter Captain rolled his eyes. He immediately said, "Then it depends on what else you can offer."
Without hesitation, the Grantham mine owner said, "I can get a huge pile of high-quality Gemstone Mine. If we successfully reclaim the mine this time, I'll give you a whole chest of gems..."
Upon hearing the word "gemstone," the Highland Headhunters immediately perked up and said:
"Alright, it's settled then. After this job, I'm off too. Who would be so foolish as to make an enemy of the Silver Moon Elf ' Silver Pegasus Legion?"
Then, the Headhunter Captain paused for a moment before saying menacingly:
"Later... we'll teach those Silver Moon Elf a lesson they won't forget."
The Grantham mine owner also said, "We just crushed their Logistics Unit, and I expect a lot of Silver Pegasus Warrior will be looking for us. If you ask me... we're in the eye of the storm right now, so we might as well hide here for a while."
The Headhunter Captain calmed down and said decisively, "Don't think about anything else for now. Let's take back the mine first..."
Roy was guarding the mine gate at the Spinel Mine, unaware that the Logistics Regiment had been hijacked by the Highland Headhunters.
At noon, Roy pulled Langbo along to practice martial arts in the corridor; Langbo was clearly his sparring partner...
The mine fortress was deserted. Before any reinforcements arrived, there were probably less than two hundred elves in the fortress. These Elf Warrior lived in the huge fortress and could be seen except when they were eating in the canteen. Otherwise, they rarely communicated with each other.
Roy sat down next to Captain Jones, munching on an apple, and said to Captain Jones:
"Captain Jones, how long are we supposed to stay here?"
"What's wrong? Getting tired of life at the mine?" Captain Jones asked with a smile as he peeled an orange.
"It's just that there are too few Elf Warrior living in the fortress, so I always feel a bit unsafe," Roy answered honestly.
"What's there to worry about? There's a Silver Pegasus regiment on the plateau right now. As long as we send out a distress signal in time when we encounter trouble, the Silver Pegasus Warrior will come to our aid soon..." Captain Jones said confidently.
"That's right, Roy! The Silver Pegasus Warrior are ready to support us anytime, Roy, what are you still worried about!" The other Elf Warrior of the Tenth Reconnaissance Squad echoed Captain Jones.
"You just need to manage the mining in the mine. It seems to be going well so far. Those Gray Dwarf seem to be quite enthusiastic," Captain Jones said with satisfaction.
"It's alright for now. I hope the Logistics Regiment can send over some more rum," Roy said.
"I've already mentioned this to Yalige ... Don't worry, the Logistics Regiment will be able to deliver the supplies soon." Captain Jones patted his chest and said, "Roy, I heard that Yalige wants you to be the Mine Owners here."
