Snape limped up the spiral staircase.

From the pained expression on his face, Luan could tell that he was not very pleased with the layout of the Headmaster's Office.

"Headmaster, we need to talk."

Snape's tone was extremely serious. After speaking to Dumbledore, he looked at Luan, who stood to one side.

Seeing Snape's stern expression, Dumbledore turned to Luan with a smile.

"Very well, Mr. Scarlett. Your request has been provisionally approved. You should receive this reward tomorrow. Now hurry along to the feast, or all the delicious food will get cold."

"Yes, Headmaster. Goodbye."

Luan gave the two professors a slight nod, then quickly headed down the stairs.

But before he had even left through the doors, he heard Snape's voice.

"All the defenses were fine. Only that troll got out. That is highly suspicious!"

By the time Luan stepped outside, the conversation within had faded until it was barely audible.

"Defenses? Suspicious?"

Those two words flashed through Luan's mind. Though he found them suspicious, he did not dwell on them further.

After all, school matters were supposed to be the responsibility of the Headmaster and professors. With that in mind, Luan hurried toward the Great Hall.

"I told you long ago that Quirrell was untrustworthy, yet you insisted on bringing that man in as well."

Snape's voice was harsh and heavy with suspicion, nothing like the tone a professor should use with the Headmaster.

"All right, Severus. I will consider Quirinus's situation. But what about you? Is your leg injury all right? Should you go see Madam Pomfrey?"

Dumbledore paid no attention to Snape's tone. He was only concerned about Snape's right leg, which had been bleeding continuously.

"None of your concern. I will brew some potions myself."

"Oh, very well. Have you dealt with the troll?"
