Background / History

Feng Daoling was formerly an elder of the Spirit Sword Sect before serving the Heavenly Xuan Sect. As master of Mountain Severing Peak, he oversaw the peak’s long-term task of suppressing the Corpse King. He is a Golden Core expert whose presence is difficult for all but the strongest Heavenly Xuan Sect cultivators to detect. 114 128 203

He intervened when Liu Qingfeng attempted to shield Pei Xingye after Pei threatened Qiao Ling’er. Feng struck Pei Xingye aside, challenged Liu’s misplaced loyalty to the Spirit Sword Sect, and removed Qiao Xiao from the scene for treatment. 110

After witnessing Shen Fan protect Qiao Ling’er, Feng brought him to Mountain Severing Peak. He had already investigated Shen’s history as Mu Xingtian’s blood slave and his survival after repeated Soul Searching Techniques. Feng accepted Shen as his fifth disciple, assigning body cultivation to Shen Duanshan and fire-attribute cultivation to Maple Red Leaf. 111 112

Feng supplied Shen Fan with the Flowing Fire Bridal Gown Art, later entrusted him with the first three layers of the upper Earth-rank Spirit Devouring Art, and personally taught him the Soul Detaching Poisonous Resentment Needles method. 112 114 182

Appearance

Feng Daoling is a middle-aged man in Taoist robes with a stubbly beard. 110

  • His normally lazy, indifferent demeanor can shift into a visibly murderous or authoritative presence when the sect is threatened. 110 240
  • He was left with torn clothes and a battered body after facing two peak Golden Core experts at Mountain Severing Peak. 248

Personality

Feng initially presents himself as detached and unconcerned with many disputes, preferring to protect Mountain Severing Peak and its disciples rather than become entangled in wider sect politics. He is nevertheless fiercely protective when his disciples are targeted, openly rebuking Liu Qingfeng and Mu Jiaxing for threatening or harassing Shen Fan and the peak’s members. 110 131

He is perceptive, recognizing Shen Fan’s unusual resilience, combat instinct, and resourcefulness despite Shen’s poor initial Spirit Root. He rewards initiative, provides cultivation resources generously, and selects artifacts suited to each disciple’s path. 111 112 131 215

Feng is also pragmatic and politically adaptable. Initially reluctant to pursue upheaval, he accepts the need for “iron-blooded methods” after learning of the Heavenly Xuan Sect’s corruption. Once placed in authority, he maneuvers against rival elders, protects Shen Fan’s interests, and begins reforming the sect. 205 211 214 230
