Background

At the Heavenly Xuan Sect's founding, Xue Qingtian was reportedly only a Foundation Establishment cultivator, but he later became a Golden Core powerhouse and established himself as the sect's unquestioned leader 95.

He raised Xue Hanzhou as an adopted son and publicly named him the Heavenly Xuan Sect's Holy Son. The ceremony was interrupted by Xue Jin, Xue Qingtian's estranged son, who accused his father of murdering his mother, framing him, and favoring Xue Hanzhou 85 86.

Xue Qingtian ultimately attempted to take Xue Hanzhou's body. The attempt was only partly successful, forcing the two souls to temporarily share one body while a replacement vessel was sought 192 196.

Personality

Xue Qingtian is calculating, domineering, and willing to sacrifice allies, disciples, and sect resources to preserve his authority. He turned the Demon Extinction Decree into a pretext for entering the territories of the other three major sects and searching for keys connected to his ambitions 97.

He treats subordinates as expendable tools. During the investigation into Jia Chengxin's destroyed expedition, he forcibly soul-searched Shen Fan and Lu Qingzhu despite the damage it would cause them, then had them discarded once their memories cleared Shen Fan 96 97.

His political composure often masks greed and insecurity. He yielded the Tiger Head Mountain and Sky's Edge Mountain spirit mines to Prince Zhennan only after facing the threat of Great Li Kingdom intervention and scrutiny from the other major sects 179 180.

Demon Extinction Decree and Survivor Interrogation

After Jia Chengxin's expedition is annihilated, Xue Qingtian pressures the Icefire Sect to cooperate with Heavenly Xuan Sect investigations. He then interrogates Shen Fan and Lu Qingzhu, forcefully searches their souls, and uses the decree as cover to infiltrate the other major sects' territories 95 97.

Conflict with Great Li Kingdom

When evidence emerges that Heavenly Xuan Sect disciples massacred thousands of civilians, Xue Qingtian negotiates with Prince Zhennan. To prevent greater political fallout, he accepts demands for reparations and transfers control of two spirit mines to the Great Li Kingdom 179 180.

Corpse Puppet Power Struggle

Xue Qingtian learns that Liu Qingfeng has secretly refined a large force of Corpse Puppets. Rather than confront him immediately, he schemes to use Feng Daoling against the Grand Elder, provoking a three-way struggle for control of the sect 199 204.

Loss of Xue Hanzhou's Body

During the battle with Liu Qingfeng, Xue Qingtian abandons Xue Hanzhou's body through Corpse Exchange. He escapes into his Death Corpses and forms a giant corpse body, but his principal physical body is ultimately destroyed, leaving him as a soul 204 205.

Final Downfall

While recovering and cultivating the Corpse Dismemberment Art on Qingtian Peak, Xue Qingtian is betrayed by Wan Chaofeng and surrounded by sect elders. Shen Fan traps his Blood Soul Corpse with the Nine Palaces Black Banner, forces him out of a possessed elder's body, and devours him with the Soul Devouring Art 212 214.
