"Romilda!" Ron said in a sickeningly tender voice, his face seeming to be lit by a ray of holy sunlight as he spoke.
Harry and Ron stared at each other for nearly a minute before Harry finally asked in exasperation—
"This is a joke, right? You're joking!"
"I think... Harry, I think I love her!" Ron said in an unfamiliar yet resolute voice.
"Right, right, right!" Harry walked over to Ron and looked at his glassy eyes and pale face. "All right, now say that again honestly."
"I love her!" Ron said, panting heavily. "Didn't you see her hair? So black and shiny and smooth. Her eyes, her big black eyes, and—"
"This is ridiculous!" Harry cut in at once. "But the joke is over now. All right, stop immediately. Let's go have breakfast."
Harry turned to leave, but after taking only two steps toward the door, he felt something strike his right ear.
Harry swayed as he looked around. Ron had just drawn back his fist, his face twisted with rage, and he looked as though he was about to hit him again.
Instinctively, Harry pulled out his wand and shouted without thinking, "Flipendo!"
Ron's heels twisted together, and he was hoisted upside down; his robes fell over him and swayed helplessly.
"What are you doing?" Harry shouted angrily as well.
"You insulted her! You said it was a joke!" Ron yelled. As most of his blood rushed to his head, his face slowly turned a deep purplish red.
"This is so stupid. What is going on?" Harry felt utterly baffled.
Only then did he notice the open box of chocolates on Ron's bed. The postmark caught his attention.
"Where did you get those Chocolate Frogs?" Harry asked.
"They're birthday presents! They're my birthday presents!" Ron shouted at Harry,
