After passing through dense pasture grass and a vast stretch of land grazed down to nothing but damp, fluffy turf, Aragog led Hagrid to an enormous ranch.
The ranch was enclosed by spider silk and several thick wooden stakes, crudely yet sturdily divided into dozens of areas of varying sizes. Each held anywhere from three or four to eleven or twelve cows or sheep. From time to time, Acromantulas carrying freshly harvested pasture grass would feed the plump, well-fattened livestock.
"In Tierra's words, those responsible for feeding the meat are the most gifted among all my people," Aragog said as he led Hagrid through the cattle sheds and sheep pens.
"Gifted?" Hagrid asked in confusion.
"After coming here, Mr. Tierra conducted a test," Aragog continued. "Mr. Tierra had me gather all my descendants with leg spans over one meter and allowed them to prey upon one cow or sheep. But if they could resist the urge to hunt for one hour, then after that hour, they would receive two cows or sheep."
"And the result?" Hagrid asked curiously.
"The result was that only these children passed the test." Aragog gestured with his chelicerae toward the Acromantulas bustling between the cattle sheds and sheep pens. "By Mr. Tierra's order, these children will have the opportunity to learn profound magical techniques from Mr. Tierra in the future, and those who progress more quickly in their magical studies will enjoy Unlimited Mating Rights."
"Unlimited Mating Rights?" Hagrid was puzzled by the unfamiliar term.
"Mr. Tierra ordered us to strictly implement something he calls, um, Family Planning." Aragog repeated what Tierra had told him.
