Background / History

Goreya is the grandson of Marshal Golong of the Heaven Dou Empire. Protected by that status and surrounded by flatterers seeking military connections through his family, he grew accustomed to acting as their leader and treating other students as beneath him 8 17.

He and Ye Lingling grew up together as childhood friends; because Ye Lingling is also from an imperial noble family, Goreya treats her with more restraint than he does most students 9. His initial hostility toward Ning Weiyang began with a cafeteria dispute over a dropped food tray, which he blamed on her. When Ning feigned fainting, however, Goreya panicked and sought help rather than continuing the confrontation 8 9.

After investigating Ning's expulsion from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, he escalated to throwing notes at her and calling her “Little Bastard.” He later spread rumors concerning her background with his lackeys 16 17. His behavior drew retaliation from Dugu Yan's group and, more decisively, from Ning herself after her martial soul evolved 17 18 32 33.

Personality

Initially, Goreya is arrogant, status-conscious, and accustomed to using Marshal Golong's name as protection. He enjoys the praise of his lackeys, talks tough even when frightened, and assumes his family background places him above ordinary students 17 30 33.

His encounters with Ning Weiyang break that confidence. After experiencing the suppression of his martial soul and being thrown into the water, he becomes wary of her and warns others not to provoke her 33 43. He remains boastful and impulsive, but shifts into an opportunistic yet increasingly sincere supporter who wants to be useful to her 77 81 129.

Goreya is easily flustered, frequently speaks before thinking, and has limited political judgment. Nevertheless, he values loyalty and reputation; once he commits to helping someone, he is reluctant to abandon the task or appear disloyal 85 91 113.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Conflict with Ning Weiyang

Goreya falsely accused Ning Weiyang of knocking over his food, then harassed her after she gained Ye Lingling's sympathy. He later investigated her past, insulted her in class, and encouraged rumors that she was an illegitimate child with only Innate Spirit Power Level Three 8 16 17.

After Ning Weiyang revealed her evolved martial soul, she defeated his lackeys, punched him down, suppressed his martial soul, and threw him back into the water. She warned that any future rumors would be attributed to him 32 33. The experience leaves Goreya fearful enough to intervene when Jiang Qingning and Xia Qiu insult Ning 43.

Transfer to Spirit Hall Academy

Goreya travels with Ning Weiyang, Xia Qiu, and Jiang Qingning to Spirit Hall Academy. During the carriage conflict, he is caught in Ning's indiscriminate petal-blade attack but avoids escalating the fight 44 46.

When the teachers investigate the destroyed carriage, Goreya accurately states that Jiang Qingning and Xia Qiu initiated the dispute, choosing neutrality rather than making Ning an enemy 49.

Ye Family Mission

At Spirit Hall Academy, Goreya attempts to build a relationship with Ning Weiyang, partly because he recognizes her strength and backing 77 81. She tasks him with visiting the Ye Family to ask about treatment for Song Xiuyan and to deliver messages to Dugu Yan and Ye Lingling 85.

He returns after seven days, having delivered the message, but fails to obtain a direct answer: Old Master Ye insists that Ning Weiyang ask in person. Goreya refuses to reveal that she sent him, believing this demonstrates loyalty, despite the mission's poor result 90 91.

Flower Sect and Political Support

Goreya accompanies Ye Lingling and Song Weiyang to Heaven Dou Royal Palace, insisting that he will stand with them even if the situation becomes dangerous 113. When Song Weiyang reveals plans involving Crown Prince Xue Qinghe, he remains concerned about the political consequences of acting against his grandfather's former side 114.

As a Flower Sect disciple, Goreya is assigned responsibility for Song clan members who wish to leave the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. He is eager to prove his worth, though Ye Lingling repeatedly has to restrain his impulsive attempts to interfere in Song Weiyang's family affairs 129 130.

When news arrives that Goddess of Flowers Valley has reopened, Goreya helps Ye Lingling report it to the Flower Sect elders. He is barred from joining Dugu Bo, Ye Lingling, and Song Xiuyan's expedition because he must continue his assigned work, but he remains worried for Ye Lingling 137 138. After Song Xiuyan returns gravely weakened, Goreya assists Ye Lingling in caring for him while Dugu Bo goes to summon Song Weiyang 141.
