Overview
The Divine Tribulation Realm is reached after completing the five steps of the Divine Transformation Realm: Breaking Free from Shackles, Shattered Vajra, Condensing Martial Courage, Martial Will, and Martial Stele. Its practitioners confront Heaven and Earth through a sequence of tribulations rather than merely accumulating cultivation. 95
Passing the realm’s three tribulations grants “great freedom and great ease” and opens the path to the Divine Immortal Realm, where one becomes a Terrestrial Immortal. 95
Divine Tribulation Realm martial artists are major powers within the Great Zhou Dynasty. In a state, they serve as pillars of stability, while peak practitioners can move freely throughout the region; Divine Immortal martial artists remain the true rulers of the four regions. 223
Tribulations
Lightning Tribulation Tempering
Lightning tribulation is the first conventional tribulation and principally tempers the body. A successfully tempered physique can gain extraordinary resilience; repeated exposure to tribulation lightning further strengthens it. 156 263
- Blood-colored lightning may arise through corrupt methods, as when Pu Du used the essence and blood of ten thousand living beings to alter his tribulation. 156
- Ordinary Lightning Tribulation-level demons were common on the Great Zhou side of the Demon Beast Mountain Range’s southern slope. 164
- Exceptional talents can attract an Extraordinary Heavenly Tribulation, whose lightning can easily annihilate ordinary Divine Tribulation Realm practitioners and threaten even peak experts. 261
Fire Tribulation Condensing Spirit
Fire tribulation targets divine will rather than the physical body. Its completion condenses divine sense. 296
- Divine sense functions like all-directional perception, making Fire Tribulation-level martial artists difficult to ambush. 296
- It can be extended to inspect unknown surroundings; stronger cultivation produces stronger divine sense. 296
- Spiritual or nascent-soul martial arts capable of training divine sense are exceptionally rare and prized. 296
Wind Tribulation Refining Heart
Wind calamity is the final tribulation and refines a martial artist’s mind and spiritual power. 316
- It may last for days; Chen Fan’s Wind Calamity lasted three days and nights. 316
- Completing it raises a cultivator to the peak of the Divine Tribulation Realm. 316
- Demons at the Wind Tribulation level may enter the Divine Immortal Realm and become true Demon Kings upon enlightenment. 164
Alternative Tribulation Method
The Three Calamities Sutra is a Divine Tribulation-specific cultivation method derived from the Calamity Heaven Art. Its prescribed order is distinct from the conventional lightning, fire, and wind sequence. 204 300
| Sequence | Significance |
|---|---|
| Human Calamity | First calamity in the Three Calamities Sutra’s ideal progression. 300 |
| Earth Calamity | Second calamity; may be repeated alongside the Human Calamity. 300 |
| Heavenly Calamity | Final calamity; occurs only once and determines the practitioner’s ultimate ceiling within the realm. 300 |
Following the Human–Earth–Heaven order allows gradual accumulation before the final leap to the realm’s peak. Skipping directly to the Heavenly Calamity is possible, but considered incomplete. 300
Cultivation Requirements
- The realm requires surviving natural calamities by drawing lightning, fire, and wind into oneself to temper body, primordial spirit, and state of mind. 206
- Complete Divine Tribulation Realm cultivation methods were scarce in the Cloud Province Brocade Guard armory; only three incomplete methods were available there. 80
- Complete methods could be sought at the Northern Border Brocade Guard Commandery, while complete Divine Immortal Realm methods required exceptional contributions and absolute loyalty at the Central Capital headquarters. 80
- The Three Calamities Sutra contains only the Divine Tribulation section of a larger supreme art and has extremely demanding aptitude requirements. 204
- Mystical Power secret arts are normally reserved for Divine Immortal Realm practitioners, though exceptional Divine Tribulation Realm prodigies may wield portions of them. 158 215
Capabilities and Limits
Physical and Spiritual Growth
- Lightning tribulation strengthens the body; Fire Tribulation creates divine sense; Wind Tribulation refines mental and spiritual power. 95 296 316
- A peak Divine Tribulation Realm physique may rival high-grade spiritual artifacts or stronger, especially for body refiners and bearers of special physiques. 220 264
- Peak practitioners may possess combat power far above ordinary cultivators of the same realm, but the Divine Immortal Realm remains a fundamentally higher level of life. 268
Lifespan
- Divine Tribulation Realm human martial artists generally live about five hundred years. 96 304
- Great Zhou emperors universally reached this realm, allowing lifespans of roughly five centuries; life-extending treasures could add another one or two hundred years. 96
- Exceptional physiques can greatly exceed this norm. Chen Fan’s Sacred Spirit Overlord Body gave him over 1,200 years of lifespan upon entering the realm and more than 1,500 years at its peak. 216 325
Mystical Powers and Secret Arts
- Most Divine Tribulation Realm practitioners lack sufficient internal energy to sustain Mystical Power secret arts. 340
- Martial prodigies with unusually deep foundations can cultivate such arts, but generally reserve them for decisive situations because of their immense consumption. 340
- Innate Mystical Powers are an exception: beings favored by Heaven and Earth may wield them at much lower cultivation levels. 215
