Background / History

Bronya was an orphan in Rivet Town's Underworld, where she was initially a quiet, overlooked child. She knew Jiang Mo before his later visits to the orphanage: they had played hopscotch together and found a rare intact glass marble, which she kept safe. When Jiang Mo returned with a Soda Ice Mountain dessert, she was delighted by the unfamiliar treat and worried that he had stopped visiting because he hated her. 13 14

Her attachment to Jiang Mo deepened after he protected her dessert from other children and promised to return. The two made a pinky promise, and Bronya waited anxiously outside while Jiang Mo spoke with Natasha. 14 15 16

Bronya was the sole child selected from the orphanage for relocation to the Upper District. Although the opportunity offered escape from hunger and cold, she was reluctant to leave Natasha and Jiang Mo.
