Background / History

Tsunade is a Senju descendant and the granddaughter of the First Hokage. Her family heritage gives her personal knowledge of the Senju Clan's former Wood Release and its historical significance. She is also one of Hiruzen Sarutobi's three disciples alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru. 34 67 83

While observing a Ninja Academy match, Tsunade sees her younger brother, Nawaki, defeated by Uchiha Akihime. Rather than letting him dwell on the loss, she tells him that a ninja must endure failure and use shame as motivation to improve.
