Background
Seele is Cocolia's adopted daughter, stranded alone in the Sea of Quantum. Hunger, thirst, and repeated encounters with quantum monsters nearly kill her, but her promise to one day see the sea with Bronya gives her the resolve to endure. 70
An Invitation Letter reaches her in the Sea of Quantum and manifests as a notebook that she initially uses as a diary. Gwen's messages begin appearing within it, alarming both Seele and the protective consciousness in her Stigmata; nevertheless, the notebook offers their first apparent connection to the outside world and a possible path home. 73 74
Gwen later sends Seele photographs of Bronya, confirming that Bronya is alive and renewing Seele's determination to survive and return. 86 87 When Seele's shelter is destroyed and she is pursued by quantum creatures, Gwen enters the Sea of Quantum to help her. 87 88
Cocolia plans to create a Herrscher by exploiting Raiden Mei and use the resulting power to reopen the Sea of Quantum for Seele's return. Bronya ultimately allies with Gwen because she believes Seele would never accept a return built upon mass casualties. 96
Appearance
Seele is a frail blue-haired, blue-eyed girl whose long isolation in the Sea of Quantum leaves her physically weakened. 70 86
- Her usual eyes are described as blue like the sea. 70
- When the Stigmata consciousness takes control, her pupils turn scarlet and her demeanor becomes violent and confrontational. 70
- She wields a scavenged scythe that responds to the power she unconsciously channels into it. 83
Personality
Seele is gentle, timid, and initially wary of the unknown, yet loneliness does not overcome her desire to reunite with Bronya. Even before receiving help, she repeatedly survives conditions that should have killed her because she refuses to abandon that promise. 70 74 87
Her combat talent is instinctive rather than disciplined. She can be impatient and reckless in battle, but accepts Gwen's criticism after their spar and resolves to improve. 83 Time in the Sea of Quantum gives her a lasting desire for strength—not for ambition, but so she can resist monsters and protect others. 306
Seele is hesitant about acting on her feelings for Gwen, a passivity that becomes a source of conflict with Black Seele. 153 154
Abilities & Skills
Stigmata Power
Seele possesses a Stigmata with substantial unrealized potential. Before developing it, she is only physically fit and cannot survive powerful quantum enemies alone; Black Seele must take control to protect her. 87
- Channels Imaginary Energy through her body during combat. 83
- Can unconsciously empower her scythe beyond its normal capabilities. 83
- Later learns to independently release part of the power within her Stigmata. 306
- Her Stigmata is stated to have great potential connected to life-and-death power, though she has not become the Herrscher of Life and Death. 346
- Gwen seeks Demeter's guidance for Seele because her abilities resemble Demeter's Authority but lack a defined development path. 360
Instinctive Combat Talent
Seele possesses exceptional natural combat instincts, but initially lacks the control needed to use her full strength safely. 83
- Can cross ten meters almost instantly and attack with superhuman speed. 83
- Uses a fast, powerful scythe style that Gwen compares favorably to her innate combat talent. 83
- Must train to consciously control the energy she places into her weapon. 83
Soul-Bound Invitation
After choosing soul-binding, Seele's Invitation notebook becomes a system visible only to her. It can synchronize with the Stigmata consciousness when Seele permits it. 86
- Enables communication with Gwen across worlds. 73 74
- Allows Gwen to send her photographs and information about Bronya. 86 87
- Gives Seele and the Stigmata consciousness a shared channel to an external ally. 86
Equipment
- Scavenged scythe — Seele's primary weapon; it becomes significantly more powerful when infused with her unconscious Stigmata energy. 83
- Soul-bound Invitation notebook — Originally an Invitation Letter, it serves as Seele's private system interface and communication link with Gwen. 73 86
Relationships
- Bronya — Seele's beloved “Bronya sister.” Their promise to see the sea together sustains Seele in the Sea of Quantum, and Gwen's photographs of Bronya restore her hope. 70 86 87
- Gwen — An outside-world contact, rescuer, and combat mentor. Seele calls him “Brother Gwen,” accepts his help in the Sea of Quantum, and trains to better control her power under his guidance. 73 87 83 306
- Black Seele — The Stigmata consciousness sharing Seele's body. Black Seele is fiercely protective, often takes control during danger, and clashes with Seele over her passivity and feelings for Gwen. 70 87 153 154
- Cocolia — Seele's adoptive mother. Cocolia frames her Herrscher-creation plan as an effort to bring Seele back from the Sea of Quantum, despite the catastrophic human cost. 70 96
- Demeter — A prospective mentor asked by Gwen to guide Seele's undeveloped power. 360
