Night fell.
The snow had stopped, and the stars glittered brilliantly overhead.
The mercenary team entered the Holy City and began exploring the ruins.
After being rescued, the villagers rushed back to their homes, took out their hunting bows, and more than thirty adult men armed themselves and charged toward the Holy City.
They had lived here for years. They were all excellent hunters, familiar with these mountains and forests and everything about the Holy City. They were not without a chance against gun-wielding bandits. They wanted to destroy the enemy and protect the Holy City and the Prophet.
They did not fear battle. Earlier, they had only been controlled by those thugs because they had been caught off guard, and because their families and children were in danger, the men had not dared to act recklessly.
"What should we do, Jon?"
Watching the villagers rush toward the Holy City, Lara asked.
"The enemy of our enemy is our friend. Let's follow them and help the villagers wipe out the Holy Trinity people," Jiang Hao said.
"Okay!" Lara nodded.
The two picked up their weapons and chased after them.
Jiang Hao also had a selfish motive at the moment. He wanted to see whether he could obtain the legendary Source of Divinity, which could grant immortality. The words "eternal life" held an enormous allure for the Holy Trinity, and for Jiang Hao as well.
Of course, he would not force the issue. He would let things take their course.
They finally reached the entrance to the Holy City, but the mercenaries guarding it stopped them cold. The mercenaries swept them with assault rifle fire. Though no one was hit, the barrage pinned them down and made it impossible to advance.
