Background / History

The Human Race was created by Nüwa and initially survived in a precarious state along the East Sea Coast. With little protection or inherited cultivation knowledge, humans were vulnerable to demons and other threats; Xuandu and Li Yun both originated from this period of hardship. 1 105 277

Laozi later identified humanity as essential to the future development of the Human Teachings and the Humanity Dao. He, Yuanshi Tianzun, and Tongtian planned to spread the teachings of the Human, Chan, and Jie sects among humans, weakening Nüwa’s influence through a program described as “De-Nüwa-ization.” 172

The Demon Race discovered that human flesh and blood could accelerate demonic cultivation, while human Three Souls and Seven Spirits could reinforce weapons capable of bypassing Witch Clan defenses. This made the Human Race a target for large-scale slaughter and the forging of the Witch Slaughtering Sword. 264 236

Nüwa ultimately renounced her position as Holy Mother of the Human Race and transferred her share of Human Race Destiny—stated as thirty-five percent—to Li Yun. Her statue in the Human Ancestral Temple shattered, and many humans experienced her decision as abandonment. 273 274

Li Yun, Xuandu, and the Three Human Ancestors organized Safe Zones and evacuations in response to Demon Race attacks. Li Yun later relocated large numbers of humans into the Twenty-Four Heavens, eventually releasing a population estimated at roughly forty percent of the race’s former peak. 279 332 403

Under the protection of Li Yun, Laozi, and the Humanity Dao, the Human Race developed into the Humanity Dao’s sole bearer race. Li Yun’s enthronement as Human Race Great Emperor unified human faith behind him and established a new political center for the race. 437 521 523

• Humans mature in a little over ten years and reproduce more quickly than other races, giving the race exceptional demographic recovery potential. 564
