Origin and Apprenticeship

Li Yun was a transmigrator who arrived in the Primordial Era a thousand years before seeking a master. Born from a Human-Witch union, he initially possessed only a slightly stronger body than an ordinary human and concealed the unawakened Witch side of his lineage. Knowing Xuandu's future importance to the Human Teachings, Li Yun accompanied him to Kunlun Mountain and passed Laozi's assessment alongside him. 1

Laozi accepted Xuandu as a direct disciple but made Li Yun his sole inner disciple because of his Human-Witch bloodline and the hostility between the Three Pure Ones and the Ancestor Witches.
