As eldest of the Three Pure Ones, he assumes responsibility for Yuanshi Tianzun and Sect Master Tongtian. He is willing to negotiate with old enemies, cooperate with the Ancestor Witches, publicly stage a fraternal split, and even absorb Tongtian’s Upper Pure origin to protect his brothers from future control. 171 414 905

His decisiveness can become ruthless when the Human Teachings or Human Race destiny is at stake. He threatens to seize destiny and Kunlun Mountain by force during the staged split, and later directly attacks Zixiao Palace to confront Hongjun. 433 998

Accepting the Human Teachings’ First Disciples

Laozi accepts Xuandu as a Direct Disciple and Li Yun as his sole Inner Disciple at the Palace of Supreme Purity. He offers them the Supreme Purity Sacred Art and the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Technique, respecting Li Yun’s decision to choose the far more difficult Pangu-derived path. 1 2

He soon recognizes Li Yun’s extraordinary comprehension after the latter rapidly learns Taiqing Divine Thunder. Although Li Yun’s rank remains unchanged, Laozi decides to treat him on the same level as Xuandu. 5

Supporting Li Yun’s Pangu Path

Laozi provides Li Yun with Supreme Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures, Golden Elixirs, artifact-refining instruction, the Ultimate Dao Fruit method, and direct protection during major dangers. 4 6 20 61 230

After Li Yun’s bloodline evolves to a level comparable to an Ancestor Witch, Laozi takes him to the Witch Clan to acquire inheritances and awaken his Law. He also helps Li Yun gather the Five Elements power required for the Ultimate Five Qi Towards Origin Dao Fruit. 103 108

Breaking from the Heavenly Dao

Li Yun’s insight leads Laozi to recognize the Humanity Dao as a route out of Hongjun’s control. Laozi proposes cooperation with the Ancestor Witches while pursuing recognition from the Humanity Dao for himself. 171

To satisfy the Humanity Dao’s conditions, Laozi engineers a public split from Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian, demands their Human Race destiny, and forces the Chan and Jie Teachings out of the Human Race’s sphere of influence. 414 433 438

Humanity Dao Ascension

With the Humanity Dao’s aid, Laozi regains his Original Primordial Spirit and reaches Saint Extreme. He later merges with the Humanity Dao through the Human Book, becoming a Dao Ancestor capable of standing against Hongjun. 439 782 785

He then installs Li Xuan as the new Humanity Dao spokesperson and supports Xuandu’s advancement into a Middle Saint Stage Saint and leader of the Human Teachings. 779 790

Later Conflict and the Chaos Campaign

Laozi’s connection to the Humanity Dao increasingly troubles Li Yun, who believes Laozi’s priorities have become compromised. Nevertheless, Laozi grants Li Yun the Heaven and Earth Xuanhuang Pagoda when asked and accompanies him into Chaos. 954 997 998

Upon reaching Chaos, Laozi immediately attacks Zixiao Palace, drawing Hongjun into a Dao Ancestor-level battle while Li Yun infiltrates the palace and takes Treasure Distribution Cliff. 998 999
