Background and History

The three took form from Pangu’s Primordial Spirit. They were born as Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals, leaving them unable to practice the earlier cultivation stages described in parts of Pangu’s inheritance 15 61. Laozi is the eldest brother and head of the Three Pure Ones 1 434.

Their relationship with the Twelve Ancestor Witches was initially antagonistic, in part because both sides contested Pangu’s orthodox lineage 1 16. After Laozi accepted Li Yun, the brothers recognized his Human-Witch heritage as a Pangu bloodline. That recognition changed his standing and drew Pangu Creation Luck away from the Ancestor Witches 16 17.

The brothers later moved toward cooperation with the Ancestor Witches as they investigated the Heavenly Dao’s and Hongjun’s influence over Pangu’s lineage 140 171. At the same time, Laozi sought greater influence over Human Race destiny. Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian backed his plan to send disciples of all three teachings among the Human Race 171 172 173.

Abilities and Limitations

Saint-level cooperation

• The three combine their Saint power with the River Diagram and Luo Book to deduce Li Yun’s future cultivation needs 213.
• They take over construction of an independent small-world prison at West Kunlun, a task described as beyond an ordinary Saint acting alone 419.

Pangu inheritance

• They possess the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Technique, a Pangu-derived method for cultivating the Primordial Spirit and physical body 1 188.
• Their own cultivation through Severing the Three Corpses leaves them unable to switch to Li Yun’s bloodline-dependent Nine Revolutions Profound Origin Technique 197.
• The Sky-Opening Axe Spirit claims their Dao Fruits are incomplete: their power matches true Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals of the Origin within the Primordial World, but not in Chaos. The revelation shakes the brothers’ confidence 424 426.

Story Role

• Three Teachings Exchange Conference: They oversee the gathering, distribute treasures and techniques to competitors, and recognize Li Yun’s talent across alchemy, artifact refinement, and formations 54 66.
• Li Yun’s cultivation: Yuanshi Tianzun helps seek the Ultimate Qi needed for Li Yun’s Dao Fruit, while all three later join a divination to clarify his path 66 213.
• Public split: After a betrayal among their disciples, they agree to exaggerate their conflict while remaining privately united. Li Yun serves as their secret liaison 415 416.
• Struggle for independence: Luohu’s remnant warns that Hongjun may undermine their fortune and turn them against one another. Later, Laozi and Tongtian escape the Heavenly Dao’s control, while Yuanshi Tianzun remains bound by it 249 927.
• Later guidance: Laozi’s Dao Ancestor insights help his brothers advance. The three discuss regaining their freedom and helping their disciples reach higher realms 805 806.
